Hotspot for Migratory Birds in Sikkim. Ample of Tourist facilities in and around. Dhim Farmstay in Belbotey (nearby village) is a must try facility. Overall great destination for Village Tourism.
A peaceful forest with lots of potential for tourism.Following the old horse trail one can catch a glimpse of the raw natural beauty, mostly covered with teak and saw palmetto the forest provides a sanctuary for different types of birds and animals. Peacocks and red jungle fowls are a common sightings along the trails . One can also visit Kitam bird sanctuary solely for the purpose of bird watching as the forest department have installed two bird watching tower within a walkable distance from the main road, However, visitors are requested not to hunt, litter, and damage the forest ecosystem, furthermore, one has to be very careful while treading through the forest as it is also homes large numbers of pythons and Jaguar.
Best season to visit this place is in winter when the migratory birds visit this place. Otherwise, unless you are a hardcore wildlife photographer, this place will disappoint you. You can stay at Kitam village. There are few homestays available here, but only two or three of them provide good fooding and lodging facilities. All others are not that good. So, if you are going to stay there for a few days, ask the home stay owner about the bathroom, room conditions and food they provide. This place is also ideal for those, who want to spend a few days in a calm and peaceful environment.
The people are really good and very friendly. So, while visiting this place, do respect there culture.
One drives through it and gets to see the roadside view , not sure of the inside or access of any. But it felt Serene and blissful.
A beautiful home to a diverse number of low Himalayan altitude birds, flora and fauna sadly being threatened by years of poor construction management and lack of care for the wildlife patterns. Please go early in the mornings preferably with someone local to spot birds. Notably Spotted the Red Jungle Fowl and Common Green Magpie and and equisite butterflies, on a recent visit. Closest town would be Namchi.
Awesome place, decent peoples but the only problem is bad road connectivity of sikkim.
A must visit place for bird lovers. Absolutely beauty. Trekking trails are beautiful.
Excellent birding experience in the lower hill forest of Sikkim. The Protected Area provides a lot of homestay opportunities to understand the socio-cultural milieu of Sikkimies' vibrant society.
