Kapil Sarovar - Lake in Kolayat - Bikaner, India

Kolayat Lake is located near the town of Kolayat, Bikaner district, Rajasthan, India. The lake was created by Kapila Muni for the liberation of his mother. It is a pilgrimage destination linked to Kapi and thought to be named after him. The sacred waters of Kolayat lake are believed to wash away sins.

Kolayat is an historical centre of pilgrimage where the Vedic sage, Kapila is believed by some to have shed his body under a Peepul tree. Kolayat has a number of marble temples, sandstone pavilions and 52 ghats (bathing places) built around a large artificial lake. A temple dedicated to Kapila is the venue for an annual fair held in the month of Kartik (October - November). During full moon of this month thousands of devotees of the Sankhya philosophy gather to take a dip in Kapil Sarovar. Devotees believe the lake has the power to wash away their sins. A livestock fair, mainly for the trading of camels is part of the festivities.

A famous pilgrimage spot with a temple dedicated to Kapil Muni (saint) Kapil Muni sat in meditation near lake. Muni was propounder of Sankhya Philosophy The temple is the venue for an annual fair held in the month of Kartik (Oct-Nov) when the thousands of devotees gather in a large number to take a sacred dip in the holy waters of the Kolayat lake( Kapil Sarovar) on the full moon day. Lake is considered to have the effect of washing off the sins of devotees. Nice place in bikaner. Situated 50 km from bikaner city in jaisalmer highway. It's holly place of kapil muni temple. Kapil sarover situated in middle of kolayat. Lot of ghat here for bath in mela. jai ho

Kapil sarovar.. It's in kolayat near Bikaner. Hinduo ki aastha aur vishwash ki ek prasiddh jagah. Vedic muni rishi kapil ne yanha tapasya kisi thi. I visited this place 3-4 times. This time felt it magical. Cool, peaceful, neat, beautiful. You feel like closing your eyes and sitting for a while. Water was there in sarovar so my kids took bath in it. Trust me was feeling really awesome. As this time we came when no mela (fair) or no full moon or half moon day so it was quite empty and peaceful. People do visit once.
