Hotel De L'Orient, 18th Century, Puducherry - Hotel in Puducherry - Pondicherry, India

An old fashion hotel as I love them when I travel abroad. Beautiful building in a relatively quiet street of the city. Facing the Cluny Embroidery center, another amazing place. The building is well kept. The courtyard is lovely, full of greenery and chirping birds. Most of the rooms are breathtaking beautiful. The staff is so helpful and nice. However, I didn't have hot water in my bathroom: I had to ask the front desk to turn on the heater every time I wanted to take a shower. The breakfast was ok... I highly recommend this place if you want to experience traveling in time, in a good way.

I've stayed at the De L'Orient before but this time my experience with the room and service was rather unsatisfactory. The AC makes an unbearable noise, the rooms are stuffy with very little ventilation. I happened to step out for dinner and came back at 10:00 PM, the door of the hotel was locked from the inside and it took a good amount banging the door and repeatedly ringing the bell to wake up the door man. I wouldn't enthusiastically recommend it. There are multiple and better option in the vicinity for a better price. Do look around.

Very quaint hotel and retains the old world charm of the French Quarter. Excellent location and very friendly staff. If you have a 4 wheeler you need to find parking on the street and one once you get it, don't move your vehicle all places are walking distance. The weather can get very humid so carry sun screen and an umbrella/hat. The rooms themselves are clean but internet is patchy and AC was a bit on and off

Great service at the restaurant. Food is good but a bit expensive, cause there is not much to speak about the ambience at the restaurant. Management could do a lot better. Rooms are hygenically clean, but dusty and not well maintained. Don't take the road facing room as it gets noisy with the traffic. Not exactly value for money.

Overall a decent experience. AC makes a bit of noise. Rooms lack ventilation. Rooms are old fashioned, you may get a good old French style living experience. Restaurant is good and have good options to try. Food was good.

Happened to have the fortune of staying at De L'Orient last weekend. A very homely atmosphere with a lovely rustic and antique vibe. Located at walkable distance to the beach is another plus. Staff and a special note to the manager who were all extremely welcoming and courteous... All in all a very pleasurable experience...

Hotel needs to improve on the basic requirements like providing hot water for bath.Not taken care even after the issue was raised.

Expensive and service very poor.The hotel is dingy and dark.The beds small .For the kind of price we paid,the food was not good and the complimentary breakfast is so bad and the same every morning that you get sick of it .It may be central but not worth the money one pays.Its also badly maintained and dirty .
