Though this museum is a gem in folk art, But it's closed for last 2-3 years for internal disputes. It's really disappointing. Please don't visit now. You'll return with empty hands.
Yes. One thing. They have a small but well-maintained garden with nearby pond. That's peaceful.
This museum have wonderful collection of old textile and artifact's like Kantha of undivided Bengal etc.
Museum authority arrange many craft workshopin this museum and the develop the craft products.
You can also get varieties of craft product from different part of Bengal.
Nicely maintained museum. Inside photography is not allowed. Entry fee Rs. 10 per person. Exhibition on Bengali art and culture. Not much visitors come here. Remains quiet most of the times. Local schools arrange excursion tours here for the children. There is new section which is recently built is for modern art only.
If you are looking to dive into history of erstwhile Bengal know more about Bengal folk art Patachitra paintings, intricate Sujni kantha, terracotta panels, stone sculpture collection of 18th and 19th century from different parts of Bengal like Birbhum, Bankura and others this museum is surely not to be missed. It includes the personal collection of Sir Gurusaday Dutta ICS who lived in Bengal between 1881 and 1941 . There is a Bratachari or physical education centre adjacent to the museum. Dutt had pioneered the Bratachari movement and was a great connoisseur of art and culture which is evident from the museum. The museum though unded Ministry of Culture is looking for funds as government funding was stopped in 2017. The Rs 10 ticket from visitors is not adequate to sustain the museum and hope people read my reviews and support the cause and visit the museum to visualize our rich culture and heritage.
Asia's biggest museum of folk art. But, closing down for various issues. Both budget cut from government, and unwillingness of museum staffs to update and upgrade are main reasons. Its a piece of Bengal's history facing threat of non- existence.
Good collection of old Indian handmade products. You can also see Gandhi ji's used things. Nice place to enjoy holliday, and students must visit here to watch about our rich indian history. Good place, need to enlarged a bit more.
Loved the atmosphere and the collections but should have been a bit more well lighted and maintained. It achieves the collections of Gurusaday Dutt who was An IAS Officer and was involved in the Bratachari movement. Monday and all Central Holidays it is closed. Ticket is Rs. 10 per person.
The Gurusaday Museum has a rich collection of approximately 3300 exquisite exhibits of folk arts and crafts, which amply reflect the vigour and vitality of the rural life and present a vivid picture of art, social traditions, religious beliefs, practices and motifs, aesthetic assimilation and cultural influences in undivided Bengal as well as in India.
