Gauripur Rajbari Main Palace - Featured Reviews (389)
This palace is located at Matiabag hill near the bank of the Godadhar river. It is named as Matiabag Rajbari. It was used as Hawakhana by the Royal family of Gauripur. It was used as residence by the famous actor and director late Pramathesh Chandra Barua.
It's like revisiting and reliving history. Had a memorable day visiting this heritage and witnessing the legacy of Legendary filmmaker Pramathesh Chandra Baruah and Legendary singer of Goalparia folk song Pratima Barua Pandey.
A culinary journey that celebrates the rich heritage and flavors of Gujarat, leaving you craving for more.
Less maintained.. a good place
I visited the place but Museum under renovation
Not at all maintained as of now but I heard from the grandson of the king who was showing the place that the govt. is soon taking over the place and shall be renovating it and opening it as a museum. It is just fifteen minutes drive from Rupsi Airport. There is a beautiful lake besides the palace. Should be visiting if you are in Dhubri or nearby.
Great to saw historical Gauripur Rajbari Main Palace.
The establishment of the town and the name "Gauripur" has an interesting story associated with the main architect of Gauripur, Raza Pratap Chandra Baruah, Zamindar of Rangamati. It is believed that one day Raza Baruah was hunting in the forest and came across a frog which was eating a snake. He was very much astonished to see this unnatural and unheard sight. Being a very strong devotee of Goddess Mahamaya, he was convinced that it was some sort of supernatural message for him. Shortly afterwards, he established a temple for Goddess Mahamaya and named the place as Gauripur after the alias "Gauri" of Mahamaya. He even shifted his capital of his Zamindari from Rangamati to Gauripur(adapted from the book "Hai Hastir Kanya" written by Dr. Dhiren Das of Gauripur). Famous personality Mr. Pramathesh Chandra Barua (The founder of Indian Film Industry) and Padma Shree Pratima Pandey Barua belongs to this place.
