Dhameswar Mahaprabhu Temple - Hindu temple in Nabadwip - Nadia, India

After Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu accepted the sannyasa order, His wife, Vishnupriya, remained in seclusion and chanted Hare Krsna day and night. Then after some time Mahaprabhu somehow gave her this Deity of Himself (made from neem wood) which was the first Deity of Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu ever established. Visnu-priya used to daily worship Mahaprabhu's wooden shoes and this Deity, weeping bitterly and talking with Caitanya Mahaprabhu and He would also speak to her in the form of that Deity. Caitanya Mahaprabhu danced in mahabhava in Mayapura. There was a neem tree at His house in Mayapura. This tree accepted Mahaprabhu's beautiful form in its heart when He danced in the bliss of sankirtan. When Mahaprabhu left, having taken sannyasa, then this neem tree manifested a beautiful Deity of Mahaprabhu. Visnupriya saw that Mahaprabhu came out of this neem tree and the neem tree disappeared. She took Mahaprabhu in her arms and began worshipping Him, offering Him bhoga, and so forth. And her separation was in this way relieved."

Dhameshwar Mahaprabhu Deity of Mahaprabhu which is worshipped by His dear wife, Sri Vishnupriya devi after LCM took sanyas. She served Him wholeheartedly for the rest of Her life. Vishnupriya devi will chant a round and keep a grain of rice aside. She will cook and eat only that much rice. After Vishnupriya devi devi departed, Dhameshwar Mahaprabhu is served by His in laws i.e. Vishnupriya's father lineage.

Must visit place in Nabadwip. The deity of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu in this temple is said to have been worshiped by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu's wife, Srimati Vishnupriya, after the Lord took sannyasa. This deity of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu has His arms extended out lovingly towards His devotees. Vishnupriya was sixteen years old when Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu took sannyasa and she disappeared from this material world at the age of ninety-six, so she worshiped this deity for eighty years. Wooden shoes are kept in this temple which are said to have been worn by Lord Caitanya. After Vishnupriya-devi's disappearance her cousin took the deity to his house. At that time he was living on the eastern side of the Ganga. Later on when his house was washed away by the Ganga he moved to Kuliya-grama on the western side of the Ganga. This Kuliya-grama is known today as the town of Navadvipa. As Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu was the son-in-law of this family, they still to this day worship the deity as their son-in-law.

The Place where Chaitanya mahaprabhu carved his own idol from neem tree trunk, before leaving house and taking sanyas (renunciation), and gave it to her wife vishnupriya...who is said to have worshipped it and later merged in the same idol... Her nose rings is seen dangling by the nose of the idol.. The historical Idol of Sree Chaitanya dev that has been made during His life time dates back to over 500 years and made by the same neem tree wood where Nimai (Sri Chaitanya) had taken birth which was commissioned by His wife Srimati Vishnu Priya Devi....the idol has a nose ring attached to His nose that was worn by Priya ji herself and said to have dissapeared within the daru idol (wooden idol) of Dhameshwar Mahaprabhu. The temple also houses one of the only 3 wooden sandals worn by Sri Chaitanya that he gifted Priyaji.
