Dhamekh Stupa, Sarnath - Buddhist temple in Varanasi - Varanasi, India

One of the most sacred pilgrimages in Buddhism, this stupa marks the spot where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon. I visited this place around 1:00 PM on Saturday. It wasn't too crowded, and I could enter without waiting, but I had to purchase the ticket online. To ensure a smooth entrance, it's a good idea to buy the ticket before your visit. The stupa is impressively large, and there are remnants of historical buildings and the grand stupa. The place is exceptionally well-preserved and maintained. It allows you to immerse yourself in the historical Hindu architecture. This spot also serves as a fantastic location for capturing photos, thanks to its clean and well-maintained historical buildings.

Well maintained stupa by Archeological society of India.The great stuph was build by Samrat Ashoka. Indian Government reconstructed it with stone from Chunar region. Entry is only 20 rupees for Indian citizens, after scanning code rupees will be paid only in online mode. Neat and clean area. The excavated site closes at 5pm.

If you have limited time, you can just see the Stupa from the gate. You won't miss anything. It is just a vast area with the stupa in a far corner. Nothing much to see. It is just big solid cylindrical structure to commemorate "Lord Buddha's first sermon" at this place after his enlightenment in a different place. There is also a damaged fragments of a pillar erected by Emperor Asoka

Hi guys I am from BANGALORE and I visited this Monument on 18/10/23. 1) Suituated around 10kms from Varanasi. 2) AUTO will charge 500rs for both ways from Varanasi... 3) Journey time is 30-45min... 4) Never forget to eat Kachori and Jalabi ON THE WAY TO SARANATH in GOVIND SWEETS. 5) Entry fee is 25rs from from Gate.. 6) TIMINGS is from 6AM to 5PM. 7) Total Time required is 3- 4hrs.. 8) Number of BANARAS SAREE SHOPS u can find for Shopping 9)The stupa is a towering masterpiece of ancient architecture. Its cylindrical shape, rising to a height of 43.6 meters. 10)The stupa is constructed primarily of red sandstone and brick, giving it a rustic yet majestic appearance. 11)Footwear: Visitors are required to remove their footwear before entering the stupa premises as a sign of respect. 12) Photography: Photography is allowed, so don't forget your camera to capture the beauty and spirituality of the place.

Very famous and all old stupa, actually the first 1 built 2300 years ago. This is a place where Buddha started to spred his knowledge.

Sarnath is known for two things: Buddha gave his first sermon and for the Ashoka Pillar.Mauryan emperor, Ashoka, fought the battle of Kalinga and, disgusted by the bloodshed, became a Buddhist. Ashoka built many beautiful stupas and monasteries in Sarnath.Dhamek Stupa while being present since over 2000 years, the surroundings have been much upgraded. With the new light show adding to the experience. Sir Alexander Cunningham excavated the Dhamekh stupa. The Ashokan Pillar, the historical remains around the main stupa itself are maintained well and are informative. Fees for entrance, was available to us only through an Online mode, which was an suprise, but overall very impressed with the upkeep by Indian Archaeological Society of our heritage.
