Durga Puja is still celebrated with great pomp and enjoyment at De Zamindar Bari. Thanks a LOT...to enlighten me with the history of your age old family and also taking me around the area and storytelling.
Tucked away in narrow bylanes, a little distance from the national highway, is the residence of the erstwhile zamindars of Barshul. We visited this place on nabami this year to have a dekko at the Durga idol, the design of which is unique to this household. Durga is worshipped here in form of Hara-Gouri and is a symbol of eternal peace, quite contrary to her warrior avatar that is prevalent everywhere at this time of the year. The thakur Dalan is small, yet well maintained. The surrounding atmosphere is serene and does seem toinduce a sense of peace for all those who visit here. However, apart from the thakur dalan, I am not sure if common visitors have access to any other part of the household.
Fabulous place! Great piece of history and heritage! And the people are lovely and simple! And the museum of the palace maintained by Mr Himadri Shankar Dey is just mind-blowing, a must see destination.
Jamindar Bari Barsul village, is wonderful and historical.
The Durga puja of this zamindar family is over 200 years old. Although, the zamindari & the earlier glory is long gone, the puja is still continued by the current family members. The unique feature of this puja is that the debi Durga is worshipped as Hara-Gouri. A smaller image of Durga found sat on the lap of Shiva. The four children, Laxmi, Ganesh, Saraswati & Kartick glory on both side of Shiva. A symbolic bull lies below the feet of Shiva. Debi Durga is not dashabhuja & is not seen at her normal destructive mood.
In earlier days, the murtikars were brought in from Nabadwip to build the debi image but now local people are engaged for the art.

A museum of the belongings of the family which are of historical importance are kept there for display.
It's a beautiful place ... it calms the mind when you go here ... the surroundings are so beautiful
