I suggest to take a Shikara or speed boat and ask them to take you through smaller lanes of the backwaters. Bigger house boats won't be able to take you through the villages which live on the banks of side waters. It is unique experience to see the residents living on the banks of the lakes. You can ask them to take you to various film locations(extra charge).

Sea foods are quite costly if you wish to choose by your own, while you are in boat house..otherwise it was good experience in back waters. If you prefer to go on summer vacation, choose AC boat even in daytime and book 2 months prior which is cost effective

Really great experience. It was my first time on the boat... got to see the lovely backwaters of kerala. The boat has a TV. 2 rooms w bathroom. We were served with really yummy fish cooked in coconut oil!!! Very delicious. Also served tender coconuts. It was a breathtaking view In d evening. One must visit this place if they wanna spend a family vacation time together! Loved it

Good village view with backwaters, boat ride costs rs 3500 for 2 hours, boat is driven at 10 km per hour speed, just to justify the time.

Great view points and picturesque location however filled with a lot of polluted water from sewage. Wonder why people drink the same water and use it for household purposes Did not expect this kind of water in the canals Water Color varies from green, black and muddy red

Went on a small boat, recommended if you want to spend 3-4 hours on the water and get the backwaters experience instead of spending a lot on houseboats.
