At a distance of 2 km from Bidar Railway Station, Chaubara is an old circular Clock Tower and one of the important monuments situated in the heart of Bidar town.
Chaubara means a building facing in four directions. The tower is reported to have built in the pre-Islamic period but follows semi- Islamic architecture. It was probably constructed as an observation post with a height of 71 feet. This cylindrical structure gives a commanding view of the entire city from the top.
This tower traces its history back to pre-Islamic period and is built by Ahamed Shah Wali and modified by his successors.
In the middle of the busy part of the old city of Bidar, there stands a 71-foot tall watchtower with a conical top, and a cylindrical base reportedly of 180 feet circumference and mounted with a large clock.
Though it is now no longer open to visitors, the local residents say that one can get a panoramic view of the Bidar plateau from the top of the tower.
It is located at the junction of two main streets of the old city, and today serves more as a clock tower. Once upon a time it was used by soldiers of the Bahmani Sultanate to keep a lookout for enemies and intruders.
The word 'chaubara' means a building facing in four directions. One can see semi-Islamic architecture. Entry to go on top is closed for public. There is large clock on top. This historical structure is under Karnataka govt..

(Visited in January 2020) - Iconic & classic clock tower located in the centre of Bidar city. Not much is known about the monument & it remains unprotected and badly maintained, but is nevertheless a popular tourist point.
