Chini ka Rauza contains the tomb of Afzal Khan Shirazi who was the wazir of Shah Jahan. It was built in 1630s. Afzal Khan also served as a Prime Minister under Shah Jahan. The walls have glazed tile work known as Chini. The work though wearing off due to climatic conditions still allows us a glimpse of how beautiful it must have been.Located on the banks of Yamuna the building is neglected and desperately needs some restoration. Unfortunately very few tourists visit it which is a pity. It is probably one of the few buildings, if not the only one with Persian architec
government or a corporate restores this to its original beauty.Entry is free.
It's not the most beautiful building to see in Agra, mainly because it's not maintained/looked after much. However if you have extra time or pass by, take a look at it... entrance is free and it takes 5 minutes.
Gotta say though, we didn't enjoy being followed around by a group of 4 teenager boys, I had to tell them to leave us alone for them to go.
Old Mughal era building with great blue tiles work and Mughal Paintings
This place is not developed as a great tourist attractions. But if you have time then complete this part of agra also. The tomb is not well maintained outside of the building is messed up completely and yup its too old building but government should consider the renovation of these also. Garden is great to relax. Not so crowded place.
The Chini ka Rauza was built in 1639 by Mullah Shukhrulla Shirazi or Allama Afzal Khan, the prime minister of Shahjahan; he built the tomb for himself, using a combination of Persian and Afghan styles.
The Chini ka Rauza is named for the 'chini' ('porcelain' or tilework) that decorates it. When you approach the tomb from the road in front, the facade looks very shabby, with only very scattered bits of tiles in various shades of blue visible. But persevere; go around to the sides, and you'll see a lot more tilework, with lovely colours and intricate detailing.
While the inside of the tomb looks unprepossessing from outside, it's worth it to go inside: there's some lovely painting and vaulted netting on the inside of the dome.
No entry fees are charged for Chini ka Rauza.
Its a beautiful mausoleum but in a very bad state. A.S.I should take proper care and maintain the tomb. It has beautiful intricate art work on the facade. This place is being damage by climatic conditions and more over by the locals living nearby. I was around there at 7 in the morning and still the main gate was closed so I couldn't go in but what we saw as a monument on the banks of River Yamuna was beautiful.
I saw this place on internet and thought of exploring it. But highly disappointed because this place has nothing to offer. It just has one standing structure made up of Chini Mitti and blue tiles. And the structure is in very bad state , no authority is maintaining this place. I only saw the locals roaming here. This place is near Itmad Ud Daula Tomb. So, don't waste your time here , instead visit Itmad Ud Daula.
No entry fees. Open from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Quite sad to see how a historically important monument is so poorly maintained. People, especially the locals use this more as a public playground or a park for recreational activities. The beautiful and intricate paintings on the walls are falling off. Currently undergoing renovations.
