The Chimath is a hidden gem of Ladakh. Located on the second floor of the Mengon Shopping Arcade in the heart of the Leh Main Market, next to the Jumma Masjid, it requires more prominent signage. The interiors are warm, cosy and colourful in line with Tibetan restaurants. The Dalai Lama smiles from one wall and a large poster of the Potala graces another wall. The low, cushioned, comfortable platforms ranged around wooden, Tibetan-design tables lend a very Ladakhi air to the restaurant. The service is discreet and polite. The purely Tibetan menu has eclectic Tibetan dishes rarely found elsewhere - for instance long thenthuk and fried thenthuk. I ordered a vegetable mokthuk and a fried vegetable chutagi. The food was beyond my expectations. Absolutely delicious, the Chimath certainly has a very skilled chef, it's almost gourmet. The fried chutagi had grilled cottage cheese, mushroom slices, potatoes, pakchoy, all in an amazing, mind-blowing sauce. The mokthuk, my first ever, had dumplings stuffed with cheese, spinach and pakchoy in a moderately spicy soup(as requested). It was an absolute dream. You can also request the soup in a genuinely Tibetan style. The Chimath is a place that feels like home the moment you enter it, and the memories linger long after your holiday is done. Luckily, the Chimath has a loyal local clientele which sees them through the winter. It's a place that definitely deserves your patronage.
Small but comfortable restaurant, nice atmosphere and delicious food. As a result, it's a quite popular restaurant - I would recommend avoiding the typical mealtime-hours, otherwise one might need to wait outside. All dishes are available as veg and non-veg.
Nice little restaurant with authentic Tibetan taste and beautiful ambience. I specially liked their sitting arrangement. We had thukpa, momos and thentuk. The thentuk was superb. I also had a show off with my brother for chop stick handling skills by lifting peas. Above all what I liked about this restaurant was their honesty. When I wanted a butter tea they refused as their herb was over they could have replaced it with something else as we were going to taste it for first time and we had informed them about this when we entered their restaurant.
The best Tibetan food in Leh. Authentic taste for all platters in South Asian cuisine in Ladakhi style. Ask Karma for best recommendation. Try the Chugati for sure. Really good momos as well.
The food is amazing ... Tried mutton momos 9/10 and mutton chutagi 9/10 and apple beer. Mutton soup was also yummm..... Services is a bit slow but still worth the wait
While searching for a place to eat we randomly came across Chimath Tibetan Kitchen. Our noses smelled something good coming from the restaurant, the cost decor and interior sold us to stay. It was a great decision! We ordered the fried rice, mushroom soup, and egg chutagi. All dishes were fantastic and made to order. We would totally recommend this restaurant to all people, especially those who are vegetarian, curious about Tibetan food, or have some dietary conditions. A big plus for all of the running medals displayed! to all runners worldwide!
In search of local food went there but it turned out to be excellent. Food was tasty, delicious and treat to taste buds. Polite & courteous staff. Ambient atmosphere. Highly recommended for food lovers.
Love love this place. Favourites: Veg Fried Thenthuk, Egg Thukpa, Egg Chowmein, Veg Momos. Closes in Sept end and opens in next season.
