I visited CSMT on a sunny afternoon and was amazed by its stunning architecture and grandeur. The station is a masterpiece of Victorian Gothic Revival style, blended with themes from Indian traditional architecture. The stone dome, the turrets, the pointed arches and the intricate carvings are all breathtaking. The station is also a functional railway hub, serving millions of commuters every day. It is a symbol of Mumbai's history and culture, as well as its modernity and dynamism.

One of the most iconic and important landmarks in Mumbai. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is the headquarter of India's Central Railway, and easily one of the busiest and biggest railway stations in India. It was built in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, 50 years of the Queen's rule. Its previous name was Victoria Terminus. This terminus was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
The terminus was created in an extravagant Italian Gothic style by a British-born architectural engineer Frederick William Stevens, based on an early design by Axel Haig. Its construction began in 1878, south of the former Bori Bunder railway station, and was completed in 1887, the 50th year of Queen Victoria's reign.
The station name was changed from Victoria Terminus to "Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus" (with station code CST) in March 1996 in honour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a 17th-century warrior king who used guerrilla tactics to challenge the Mughal Empire and found a new state in the western Marathi-speaking regions of the Deccan Plateau.
The station was renamed "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus" (with code CSMT) in 2017, where the word Maharaj literally means "Great king; emperor."Both the former initials "VT" and the present initials "CST" are widely used.
The Central Railway headquarters are located at the terminus. With 18 platforms, it is one of India's busiest railway stations, functioning as a terminal for both long-distance and suburban trains.
