C.S.I Christ Church - Anglican church in Munnar - Idukki, India

Peaceful and serene church overlooking munnar town. The architecture is simply amazing.Situated on the top of a small hill near to the town. Parking is available in front of the church.

This Church is among the early churches established in India. The church already enjoyed its century and is still serving. Previously they were offering English service also. Now they stopped it and are doing service in Tamil, Malayalam and again in Tamil. Total three services.

CSI Church is one of the most attractive tourist spots near Munnar. This church was built by a British men for her beloved in 1910 AD. Peaceful and calm place.

Went there on Christmas Eve and there was choir practice going on. There is a cemetery at the top and a great view in the front side. It was very beautiful.

This church is located close to the Munnar town. The Church was built in AD 1910 by the British. There is no fee to enter the church, and anyone can visit this place. The church is a historical place that tells the following story, and you can see the information carved in stone outside the church. History of the C.S.I Christ Church, Munnar: It is believed that Eleanor Isabel and Henry Mansfield Knight who served in the tea plantations lived in Munnar, The couple loved this magical and beautiful Munnar that she playfully asked her husband to bury her body in Munnar on this hill top after her death. Sadly she fell ill and soon died at the age of 24. Her husband Henry Mansfield Knight buried her body to fulfil her wish. Thus came the first grave of this cemetery. The grave of Eleanor Isabel is also known as the Taj Mahal of Munnar. Later by 1911, this CSI church was erected in the vicinity of the grave. The CSI Christ Church became the first church to be built after the cemetery. It is believed that this church being on the top of the hill served as a refugee camp for the millions of people of Munnar, When Munnar was hit with the worst ever floods in 1924. In 1981 when the Britishers left Munnar they handed over the Christ Church to CSI North Kerala diocese. Amidst the cold and pleasant weather of this beautiful Munnar, this church stands next to a tomb which is a symbol of an everlasting love.
