Broad Lands Lodge is in a very good location. Easy to get to from Chennai Egmore train station by bus and from the airport by metro. Despite the time, the place still has it's charm. The lodge staff is polite and helpful. There are many restaurants in the area. Marina beach is approx. 2 km on foot. Express avenue shopping mall is approx. 1 km on foot.
This is a perfect place to stay for all kinds of travellers be it with family, friends or solo. The building gives a nostalgic experience of old Madras. The staff is well versed with English and Hindi for those who don't know Tamil. An amazing experience to live. Just don't expect fancy hotel amenities but still it's worth the price to experience the different type of vibe.
Don't fall for the high ratings. It is nothing worth the hype except for the aesthetics. The rooms were not maintained properly and the rates are high considering the fact that there are other hotels in Chennai which provide good service for more affordable rates. I think many reviews are from the foreigners who would have been treated well, but as far as our case is concerned, the experience was below average.
Firstly, I'm only rating this high for the rustic and beautiful feel AND THE NUMBER OF CATS in the place. They're the best bois and girls in the place 5/5 for them. The receptionists however were very annoying. Unnecessary questions and I went to check in at 12pm and they said the room will only be available at 6pm. I'm glad I booked another room and circumstances and the timings aligned well for me and my friends. The rooms are not in the best condition either. Dusty and not maintained well. Not the best hotel for Chennai heat as it gets unbearable. Definitely book if you want to chill with some cats and not stay in the room for a long time. Value for money is decent tho.
I stayed here in 2017 and first impression their openly racist They tried to put me in a room that was less than I paid for and thought I didn't realize it There was another African American there (David)who experienced the same thing and I noticed they treated other paler skin foreigners different (European) India is full of beautiful people but some made my journey more difficult then it should have been In prayer that some people in India realize were all brothers and sisters and shouldn't be each other's enemy
L'aspect general de l'hotel est un peu ancien. Masi c'est ce que l'on cherchait. Les chambres sont bien (avec ou sans climatisation). Pas de restauration sur place, mais beaucoup de restaurant au alentours et pour le petit dejeuner le monsieur sur place peut allez vous chercher du cafe, the et plats. Enfin, un super rapport qualite prix (Le moins cher de tout notre sejour au tamil nadou)
Don't make a mistake of booking a room here it's in a pathetic state . Although we had a booking here we didn't end up staying after seeing the condition of the rooms . We had to stay at a neighbouring hotel. Not maintained not clean, window panes broken , bats flying around and mosquitoes everywhere. And the service is dirty. The man on the reception can't even communicate.
So far a nice experience here. I just arrived today. Really at a best location, so close to MGR station and Marina Beach. The vibe is really nice. Not for someone who likes traditional beaches.
