This is one of the major mangrove delta of odisha situated at the Subarna Rekha River mouth. Can be reached by boat from Khadibil boating jetty. In addition to the mangrove forest, this is more famous for the beautiful red crabs. And one important thing to observe here is the cyclic tidal waves which mostly follow two cycles of high and low tide during the 24 hours of a day. Boat from the jetty can go to the sanctuary only at high tide time and so also the movement of fishing boats.

It is good place to visit.. Must recommended. Total Sundarban feeling. It is mangrove jungle of oddisa. Here one boat ride conducted depend on the timing of High Tide. So before going to enjoy boat ride please confirm the timings.. Otherwise the trip is useless.

Bichitrapur, located near Digha on the eastern coast of India, is a hidden gem that mesmerizes with its natural beauty. The tranquil beach is adorned with lush mangrove forests and serene backwaters, making it a haven for nature lovers and photographers alike. The biodiversity here is remarkable, offering a glimpse of rare marine species and migratory birds. The peaceful ambiance and the opportunity to spot Olive Ridley turtles during nesting season add to the charm. The area also offers thrilling boat rides through the mangroves, providing a unique eco-tourism experience. For those seeking a quieter alternative to the bustling Digha, Bichitrapur is a must-visit destination that captivates with its unspoiled charm and pristine surroundings.

Check the timing of tide before going for boat ride. The water level in the stream rises on high tide so boating is possible only that time. Otherwise the place is superb.

Bichitrapur mangrove forest is very close to Digha (18km) but it is under Balasore Wildlife Division of Odisa. It is developed by Odisha Forest Sector Development Programme in regeneration, conservation and protection of mangrove forests. Boat ride will take you to the deep forest of mangroves & the meeting point of Subarnarekha river & the Bay of Bengal Sea. Speedboat are operated by the Government of Odisha Forest Department. Boat will take to an island where you have 1 hr. to explore the island and find Red Crabs, rare tortoise and mangrove trees. Timing depends on the high and low tide timing of the day not till 1200 pm. I personally visited the place between 1 pm to 2 pm. Many other tourists were also visiting there during this time. The forest needs more attention to save the mangroves. Government need to be more careful about some tourists who are visiting this island and making it a place for boozing, doing negetive activities and disturbing other tourists. It's actually hampering the serenity of this beautiful place.

Visited Bichitrapur Mangrove Sanctuary in March with family.. its 30-40 mins Toto ride from Digha. It was a good experience. There are few eateries near the camp. One can have lunch there.. Boat charges seems to be a bit high. 1200 for a 6 seater boat..but the boat ride was fun.. You get almost an hour to explore the mangrove forest...

A small island with no where to sit or no place to feel the serene beauty. Speed boats are there to ferry you to the island through the mangroves during the high tides. They charge Rs 1200/- per boat for 06/07 passengers. The place is almost 20kms from new Digha . Auto /Toto can take you there. One more thing before going there please note the timings of high tides and low tides.
