Like so many other places of Shravanabelagola, this cave is also of historical importance. Located in a picturesque location, it is surrounded by big rocks and the backside of the cave is a place where wild animals like leopards are there. During my visit to the cave a policeman who was on duty there warned me not to go behind the cave as a person was attacked by a leopard the previous day. It is a good time to spend time with family and friends.
One of important pilgrimage (or theertha) of Jain religion is situated here. Makes for an amazing view of the town from up the hill. The Jain temple atop the hill is well known for its architecture. There is a statue of Gomateshwar Baahubali , one of the Theerthaankaras of Jain religion. Annually during festival season, the humongous statue is bathed with milk. The atmosphere the place provides is breathtaking. Avoid climbing up during the day in summer because you are not allowed footwears. Chandragupta Maurya is said to have died here after he became a Jain.
Peaceful place... Good for Jain Mandir darshan and also an outing with your family
The cave is not just of historic importance but also an ideal place to meditate. The cave where it is thought that Samrat Chandragupta Maurya spent his last days in Sallekhana vrata, is a must visit. Spent 1/2 an hour in meditation and it was truly lifting. The entrance is small and one has to bend the head and enter. Preferably on a weekday rather than weekends where the tranquility can be spoilt by unruly crowds.
This is the cave where Muni bhadrabahu, guru of emperor Chandragupta Maurya meditated. His footprint can be seen inside the cave. There is a very peaceful and meditative atmosphere
Bhadrabahu cave is on the SE of Chandragiri, outside the walled area of Jain Basadis compound. Saint Bhadrabahu lived in this cave & attained nirvana here. His engraved foot-prints can be found on the stone floor of the cave. Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of Mauryan dynasty ruled India between 321 to 187 BC more than 2000 years ago. As Bhadrabahu predicted 12 years of drought in the north at Ujjain, he along with his disciple Chandragupta Maurya & Jaina community migrated to Shravanabelagola. Chandragupta Maurya served this saint & after his death worshiped his footprints. Chandragupta himself observed Sallekhana-the Jain's way of fasting to death, after 12 years of penance.
Very spacious and deep. Adds to the verity of shravanabelagola. After seeing chandrgiri ,if you proceed towards top of the hill, you will get this cave on your enroute. Bhadrabahu who enlightened emperor Chandragupta stayed here for the sake of his Tapasya.
Bhadrabahu cave comes at right hand side after climbing Chandragiri Betta It has Shila Shasan(Rock script) right in front of its door. Shila Shasan is protected by covering the glass on it. Cave or Guha will always be very cool place to sit and take rest

Best place for one day outing from Bangalore. We started our journey from Bangalore. Covered Mavanuru, Chandragiri and Vindyagiri in one day. Better to visit Chandragiri and Vindyagiri in the morning or evening. It's Jain temple. Need to climb 300+
