Hi..was at Dharwad at about 11am on route to Bangalore from Goa. Instead of a run of the mill joint, decided to eat at Basappa Khanavali. The Meals were fresh and hot. Ate about 6 chapatis with the brinjal and green gram Sabzi. Nice and satisfying. The jolad rotis were ready later, so couldn't have them. Picked up this on the internet about the khanavali. Named after its founder Basappa Malgond, this 1930 Lingayat khanavali (eatery) is an institution. Lunch is rush hour with set meals of jolada roti (sorghum flatbread), badnekayi yenagai (brinjal curry), hesaru kalu palya (green gram curry) and jhunka/pithla (steamed gram flour savoury squares), with menthya pachadi (fenugreek leaf salad). Third gen owner Mahesh's mother Sudha Malgond still oversees the kitchen operations Don't forget to follow me. It is a good journey into culinary eating experiences.
Basappa Khanavali has been around from 1930. They know the food they serve the best. The meal was sumptuous and fresh. The serving is liberal and food is hot. The service is excellent and my gratitude to the staff there who really take care of their guests. The roti is simply yum, you can ask for soft or hard roti based on your liking. The curries and chutneys are finger licking tasty. Do get served how much you wish to eat and pls ask for more if you wish, don't waste the food. They are happy to serve us. The sambar was yummy too. The price is so reasonable. Enjoy your meal there and do like the review .
Authentic rotti oota and food is full of home ingredients and you won't feel like outside food it is exactly like homefood. Nam uttarakarnataka proper meals andra ida nod pa Gichhi Giligili.... One must try Rotti oota here......

Same atmosphere as i visited this place with my dad and brother, since I came to Hubli decided to visit this place and I loved it again.. simple food with mouth watering taste.. way better then any 5star hotel
M from Dandeli. We have tradition that whenever we visit Dharwad we'll have our lunch or dinner in Basappa Khanavali & this has been practised since my Grandfather. He used to take us to this place, then with my dad i went & today m taking my kids here. Food quality is same since my grandfather's time.
