Barnawapara Wildlife sanctuary, is named after Bar and Nawapara forest villages, which are in the heart of the sanctuary. It is a land mass of undulating terrain dotted with numerous low and high hillocks well forested area of North-eastern corner of Raipur district. The Tributaries of Mahanadi are the source of water. River Balamdehi forms the western boundary and Jonk River forms the north-eastern boundary of the Sanctuary. The well stocked forests of the sanctuary classified as teas, sal and mixed forests. Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Mahasamund District of Chhattisgarh State. Tha Sanctuary is about 100 km away from Raipur (Capital of Chhattisgarh). Nearest Airport is Swami Vivekanand Airport, Raipur. There are many resort including Government made resort (Hareli Eco Resort and Forest Resort ) where tourist can stay near Sanctuary. Safari is available, per safari charge is 1500Rs and booking amount 100Rs.
Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is my favorite place to go whenever I get a chance. The Biodiversity of the sanctuary is very rich. The Gaur also know as Indian bison is the main attraction here at BWS. Best time to visit here between November to June
