Babughat - Ferry Service Provider in Kolkata - Kolkata, India

On the request of Rani Rasmani, this beautiful ghat was built on the banks of river Ganga by her husband Babu Rajchandra Das in 1830. According to his name, this Ganga ghat is named Babughat. The almost 190-year-old Babughat is a blend of British-colonial architecture. Along with Puja Parban, people gather at this ghat to perform various events during Durga Puja. This ghat is also used for Immersion after various pujas. There is a bus terminus outside the ghat. It is one of the major bus terminus of Kolkata. Chakrarail's Eden Gardens railway station is also adjacent to Babughat. Moreover, Eden Gardens, Netaji Indoor Stadium, West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Calcutta Swimming Club, Calcutta High Court, Mahakaran, Princep Ghat and Millennium Park are located near this ghat. Ferry runs from Babughat, ticket price from Babughat to Howrah is only 6 Rupees . Ganga Aarti is organized here every evening at 6 pm. If you want to come to Babughat by metro rail, the nearest metro station is Esplanade. There are parking facilities for four-wheelers and two-wheelers. Pay and use toilets are also here.

Well, it was quite a good experience for me as I travel a lot by passing through this ghat all the pilgrims and daily workers all reach this end and sets off for their destinations. It is well maintained place, with park and sight viewing area. And at the evening time, this place is filled with pure thoughts and minds. And sunset views are just amazing too. Great place to roam around

It's Ganga ghat, famously known to all Kolkatans. There are pandits here for last rites, there is a small over bridge for pedestrians to see the beauty of river Ganga and take mesmerizing pictures of Ganga and ghat. Little dirty due to all rituals stuffs at the shore... Overall good place for sometime

TIP : If you have to catch the Bus from Babughat and you are looking for some affordable yet delicious food option then definitely check out Railway Canteen and will not get disappointed. Another thing that I would like to mention that Kolkata's Local Govt. should take care of cleanliness of the entire. The city is beautiful but people and local govt. make it look disgusting. Basic cleanliness and dustbins are not available.

I had a nice experience of attending the aarti. Ganga aarti is performed at 6:30 every day and on Saturdays,special bhog distribution is there. Must visit if you want to have a peaceful state of mind.

Also known as Chandpal Ghat the ferry from Howrah Station to Babughat is one of my favourite rides across the Hoogly River. I took my son down memory lane by talking a ride on the ferry to Babughat and back during a layover between trains of 4.5 hours. The cool breeze was exhilarating for us both and a reprive from the hot and humid weather of Calcutta, now Kolkata.
