About Fort :-A 17th century Gond Fort, which was built by gond king Bakht Buland now in ruins, is surrounded by dense forests. One of the historic sites of the destination, the fort has witnessed many wars after which it came under the possession of Raja Raghuji Bhonsle, a king of Nagpur, who later used it as prison for slaves. Later, the fort was taken over by the British, who ruled it until India got independence. It is believed that when the prisoners were sent to the fort, they were forced to drink the water of the inner well, which was poisonous. Located nearby is Gaimukh which is home to a Shiva shrine dating back to the 9th century. HOW TO VISIT:- One can reach here by bus from Bhandara or Nagpur. If you are visiting this place bye two wheeler or 4 wheeler from Nagpur - Ramtek- Jamb- Gaimukh-Ambagarh Fort and if you are visiting it from Bhandara-Mohadi-Andhalgaon-Jamb-Gaimukh-Ambagarh Fort. It's very good place to visit in Bhandara, but if you want to visit for tracking purpose the one should visit in Rainy or winter season, if you want to visit to see the fort better to visit in Summer season bcs there will be less forest. According to locals the visit time for your safety is between 9am to 5pm. Bcs its forest area where Jungle animals such as Tiger and Leopard lives. There is a need to perform maintainance activities on this fort but seems like government officials don't care about it.

It is an underrated gem of a fort in the region, turned out to be way beyond my expectations. There is a sizable climb to the fort starting from Hanuman Mandir at the base, though the whole climb can be covered through stairs (very uneven). The structure is mostly in ruins, yet there is enough left to give one a feel of how forts used to be, kids will be fascinated by it. The view of the jungle and hills around makes every single stair of climb worth it. There is s significant stretch from the Ambagad village to the base of the fort which doesn't have a good road and is trail through what seemed like a jungle, so would suggest taking help from locals of Ambagad village to take you to the base.
