Adi Kadi Vav - Historical landmark in Junagadh - Junagadh, India

An interesting section right in the middle of the Uparkot Fort, like the ground had opened up and created this Vav. It's m7ch cooler at the bottom. Unfortunately, due to trash in the water and bird droppings everywhere, it makes it hard to enjoy the totality of its beauty. Go see it since your already in the fort!

It is made in 11 th / 12 th century by Ramsingh Rav . It took 14 years to make this Vav. It's made by digging into rocks . There is no carving or design in it. Its depth is 35 metres, length is 87 metres, breadth is 4.75 metres. It has 195 steps. There is history that when this vav was made to supply drinking water to the city there was no water the jyotishi told the king that they need to give sacrifice of to unmarried girls . Two female servants ( Eti and Cheti ) of Rani became ready for it. It is well maintained by Gujarat tourism. There are security guards around to take care of visitors. From this point, Girnar hill and its nearby hills are seen .

The well is carved out of the hard rock. You can easily reach the well area. It consists of approx 120 steps.

It's an amazing development and beautification this area by Government of Gujarat. Lovely Place....

Adi Kadi Vav or Adi Chadi Vav is a stepwell in Uparkot Fort, Junagadh, Gujarat, India. The date of its construction is uncertain. Adi Kadi Vav is a Nanda type of stepwell. It is not built but carved out of solid natural rock. There is a flight of 166 steps in a narrow corridor to reach to the well shaft. A small window is carved in the thin rock layer above the well. The rock strata is visible in the eroded walls. The well is 123 feet deep. It has no ornamentations, shafts or pillars as in other stepwells.

Adi Kadi Vav is a stepwell in Uparkot fort in Junagadh city. the stepwell was constructed in 10th century or in 11th century during the rule of chudasama dynasty. This is a historic place & beautiful but not maintain properly. Architecture is awesome so best place for photography. Must visit........
