We went to this place on 09 Nov 2023 during our Indore visit. It is a place for street food with many vendors/stalls selling different items. Menu varies from chat (and its variations) to shawarma etc. There are many fusion items also available. Place is lively with crowd but does not appear over congested. Sitting option is available outside shops/stalls and in general area. Place is well maintained with satisfactory cleanliness. Food is well prepared and good to taste. Most of the shops are self service (you order the food after payment and collect it against the token once its is prepared). good place to hang out

Neat and clean place with all hygiene maintained. There are many varieties of street foods available. Good food in reasonable price. Sitting space is also there. Shops don't give tissues but in short distance hand wash facilities are available. Must visit if you're in Indore.

Until 1974, the area was referred to as the Udasin Ashram Market. It was a sparsely wooded region lacking specialized facilities. The local administration of Indore recognized the need for improvement. Consequently, a market was established for the vendors, consisting of 56 shops. This market was officially recorded in government records under the name Udasin Ashram Market. Vendors engaged in mobile businesses were allotted these shops at a cost of 2500 rupees each. The dimensions of these shops were a mere six by eight, allowing space for a handcart. During that period, the market primarily catered to the retail sale of items like vegetables. However, with time, new individuals acquired these shops and introduced a variety of offerings.

Coming to indore and not visiting chappan is akin to going to Goa but not visiting any beaches. A true gustatory delight especially for veg lovers who would like to try Street style food. From Chat to kachori to hotdog to momos you would find wide variety of dishes here. Some of the shops are overrated and food can be a tad disappointing. Pro tip - if you're going in a group then order one dish from every shop you like, share and taste it and if you really like it then you can order it more. Some of must try food places here are - Vijay Chat house Khopra patties, Johnny Hot Dog though I like their Benjo more. Don't assume this to be US style hot dog, it is more of India aloo tikki burger. Other good food joints are Young Tarang for pav bhaji and Pani Puri. In back lane you will find Dilli da roll which is good place for chicken rolls. Chick n serve is another good outlet for non veg lovers. Don't go with overly high expectations as for many outsiders at times the food doesn't match the palette. To each his own but do visit this place. Parking is very hard to find so it would be better to take an auto or taxi to reach here.

If someone is visiting Indore then I would recommend visiting 56 dukaan. It was established in 1956 as per my knowledge and that's why it is known as this and I think also they have 56 shops. But this is a combination of all types of street food keeping in mind all states of India. It's organised in a good way and you can find shops where you can just buy and sit anywhere you like or they have shops where sitting is available, mostly chai dukaan. It's open till late evening.
