Zama San Diego - Latin American restaurant in San Diego - 467 Fifth Ave, USA

Came here for a birthday. The food was so good. Loved their sushi. ambiance was amazing, love the music, and their cocktails was superb. Our waiter Sara was very attentive and we had great service throughout the night.

Zama was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area. If you are lucky enough to get Sara as your waitress, you’re in luck. She has the most wonderful recommendations and is delightful! 10/10!

If you want to go “somewhere cute” this is your spot. The decor and ambiance is gorgeous! Even the bathroom is an experience. The happy hour menu is great, you can’t beat a $6 glass of wine. The bison burger had these sautéed vegetables that were so flavorful. My only complaint is the truffle fries had zero truffle flavor. The location is perfect for people watching and walking around after your meal. There is indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of room for larger groups.

First of all, let me explain that this was my first visit to this restaurant. I read reviews before going to the establishment just to get a feel on what they serve. On that note, I should have realized that an issue may occur due to the reviews I had read. They listed three different menus online and which two of them had different prices. I was with a group of friends that wanted to go there which the place and the decor is great but the service and the prices not so. One review mentioned that their credit card was charged twice so I brought cash to spend. Unfortunately, my server short changed me when giving me my change. I noticed right away and called him out on it, which he responded that he did give me the right change. I pointed to the table what he just handed me, he did the calculation and quickly apologized and told me to go get the correct amount. If I had too much to drink, I wouldn’t have noticed. I ordered a cenote , I guess they call it old cenote?…disgusting. Absolutely disgusting I thought I had made a mistake on the drink because my other coworkers had ordered the same thing but I guess that’s the nasty woody taste of the drink. I would probably suggest you look otherwise if you’re if you’re trying to go on the weekend because service is definitely gonna take longer than a weekday. I was told once you pay for your check they want you out regardless of you mingling. They don’t hide the fact that they want you out either. I add watch what they put on your check for gratuity. Our server place a 20% gratuity charge on each of our bills. When questioned he said you can change it to whatever you like it doesn’t have to be 20%. however, if I didn’t ask anything he certainly wouldn’t have told me. I would say I would not go back definitely on the weekends hell no! But maybe you’ll luck out if you go during the weekday when service is better and during happy hour where the prices are cheaper. I could definitely go on and on about what happen over that night but it would be too damn long of a post than it already is. Let’s just say everything that I thought could possibly happen did,…well at least their food was decent.

We went here for a friends birthday and it was such a great choice! The waiter Sara was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and great is great suggestions. We loved the sushi options, Parmesan fries, and cocktails. Highly recommend for a girls night out or dinner with friends!

Decided to stop by and check this place out while actually walking to another restaurant in Gaslamp. Overall ambiance and decor were amazing, and the menu selection was quite vast with rolls, meat, seafood, etc. I had the Yellowtail Crudo & Tropical roll, but for some reason they brought it out at the same time rather than bring the yellowtail first since I figured it was an appetizer. So, the wait was a little longer than what I was expecting, but it was also a Friday night. Also, I made the mistake of requesting still water vs sparkling and getting charged $8 for that bottle…should’ve just asked for tap, so FYI about that in case you’re like me and don’t care for a bottle of water. Finally, the Don Camillo mezcal drink was quite delicious. Knowing all of this, I’d still come back to try something else off the menu since the descriptions for the rolls and everything else sounded delicious.

We had an amazing dinner at Zama! We shared several rolls and appetizers and everything was delish and so beautifully plated. And the dining room is so eclectic and fun. We loved it and can’t wait to come back. Our server, Sara, was very friendly and gave us great advice when we ordered.
