Great little stop off park near Homasassa, FL. Little bit of history about Florida's FIRST SENATOR. There are picnic tables snd a little paved very walk . Very quiet little park clean and doesn't take a lot of time to stroll through it. Plenty of parking and I have never seen it crowded.
Nice little piece of history. It's a very small park, so best to make it part of a day's sightseeing. You'll be done in 10 minutes.
The sugar mill is showing it's age. 2 bowls are gone the 3 others are rotting away. Sign there talking about looking for the future. Said going to put stuff up about the people who worked there. Not sure why it's labeled as a state park. What you see in the photos is it. Across the street is an open pavilion you can sit & have your sandwich .No restrooms. Signs along the circle with history facts. There's a few bar/ grills in very close proximity.
Small but interesting. Ruins are across the street from the parking area, roughly 500 feet of walking path. There are a few signs that explain a bit of the history.
Not much to see, not very many informative signs, and not well maintained... but at least its a little bit of local history preserved. It's worth the stop only if you are already in the area.
This is a quick side of the road historic site. Some of the items have markers and some are not. There are signs out that say improvements are currently being made. If you’re in the area heading to three sisters or other Springs it’s a quick stop.
SLOW DOWN AND SEE!
If you like Florida history, this is a must stop while in Homosassa.
"The park contains remnants of the once-thriving 5,100-acre sugar plantation: a 40-foot limestone masonry chimney, iron gears and a cane press. The steam-driven mill operated from 1851 to 1864 and served as a supplier of sugar products for Southern troops during the Civil War," (Florida State Park).
There are interesting little details to see at this outside exhibit that are worth slowing down to see.
Parking is across the street. Be careful, this road can be busy at times. The restrooms were closed -- which was disappointing to many weary travelers.
The small woodland park, by the parking lot, is charming with Oak and Cypress trees being hugged by fascinating twisting grape vines.
A picnic pavilion and tables was a welcome place to rest and enjoy a snack, while being refreshed by a cool breeze.

Not much here, just a few ruins. Some discarded trash needs to be picked up.

Best salmon dip ever! They also serve generous portions of their snow crab and boiled shrimp at a reasonable price. Staff was always friendly but sometimes due to a lot of orders, may take a bit to get your food but itâs well worth the wait. The at

We actually went to a seafood place, Seagrass Waterfront. The food took a while to arrive, but... after 30 years in NY/NJ, 20 years in Miami/FLL, traveling extensively throughout Europe and Asia, one becomes immune to all the foods. This place was ac
Good craft drinks, hell of a bourbon/whiskey collection, and the upstairs has an even more impressive tequila bar. The pizza is great. Cuban pizza is my personal favorite. Try the shrimp, they are good on a hot day. Bloody Marys are are their own bl
