Really popular among the local community. One Sunday night, I could hear English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese when dining in. Tasty Yukgaejang hotpot especially when the foods are totally heated in the soup including the beef rib, pumpkin, potatoes, noodles. Everything with the taste of based soup is really good with the companion of the rice. The beef toufu soup are the traditional Korean ones. The new one Premium beef Bulgogi is tasty with the sauce and rice. One other thing to mention is that I love the fishcake they offer for free. Not many people at weekday noon as the service is generally good. But might foresee a waiting line during meal hour at weekends night.
Original YukGaeJang with homemade ramen is pretty nice crafted. However, I love their Banchan more. Overall a very different recipe than those traditional Korean food we know such as Korean BBQ..etc. The portion is good for two for small eater.
They gave me purple rice that was smelling old and hard without asking me which rice I want. The side dishes were small. The fish cakes banchan was tasting like flour, cheap ingredient. The dish I had was mushroom soup but it was lack of umami. The servers treat you bad if you speak Korean and you are a Korean. I had an impression that they were serving OLD purple rice only to Korean customers while I was there to get rid of the rice. The table behind me was a Korean group also and they all had purple rice. All the other non Korean customers got newer and fresher white rice. And I got charged the additional rice.(and it was another purple rice) Who charges a small bowl of rice? I wanted to say that the rice is too old and why not ask us what we want, but I didn't because I did not ruin the family lunch. Anyways not going back again. When this place was controlled by the owner, it was not like this. The food was fresh and all good quality. I hope it was only on that day when I was there.
Found perfect parking in front!
Went inside and was told my whole party had to be here for us to be seated.
The host/waiter then asked if I could wait outside. It was 60 degrees outside, that is cold for my SoCal skin!!
Found out later that he asked everyone else (who was currently seated) to wait outside too so to be fair, he wanted to keep on with the request. If he just told me that earlier, I would have understood. But the way he asked was rude and made it seem very inconsiderate when it was really cold and windy outside!
Apart from him, the female server was very nice and accommodating. She helped cut our meat and brought all the utensils and things we needed. If it wasn't for her, I would have given a lower rating.
The food is good. I would say Sun Nong Dam is better but it's closed now :0(
Being seated in front of the door on a freezing night was not the best either. Every time someone came in or left, felt the wind breeze. It just unfortunately, was not the best experience.
Love this place. The broth is always so good. Not as many banchan as other places, but the quality really makes up for the lack of variety. Haven't gotten any of the large format dishes, but it seems like a great place to come with a group.
I ordered three dishes. The beef bulgogi, the army stew, and the beef tripe soup. The portions were HUGE. It would've been worth the $180 bill if the food was really good too (it wasn't). The food wasn't bad but it just wasn't memorable. The service was friendly, nice, if a bit shy. The place was so small though and the restroom took me by surprise. Also, the mandatory 18% gratuity took me by surprise too. I wouldn't come again but not bad!
Loved it!!! The cold noodles were amazing, i loved that the meat was shredded, it made eating everything together more flavorful. The spicy cold noodle was also great!
This is a Korean restaurant, but you have to ask for a bowl of rice as the servers here won't offer it until you ask for it. This was the only Korean restaurant that I've been in Cali that didn't serve your order of soup with rice - I mean the fact that I have to even mention this is an atrocity itself. It's unheard of.
Our parents (Korean) were dumbfounded by this. The 3-stars isn't just for this lack of rice with our orders, but the food itself was very average. Not sure if it was because they were so busy, but all four of us were starving when we sat down so you'd think anything tastes good at this point. We all left wanting something more, something else.
