Amazing exhibition. Beautiful story, both authentic and humbling experience. Being able to walk through this house and hear the historical commentary was like being transported back in time. A must see if you are in the area.
Beautiful building. I enjoyed learning about the transporting of this former home from China to Massachusetts. However, the amount of time allotted to tour the home is insufficient especially if you are listening to the audio guides. There’s no way you could finish the entire guide in the time given. If you live in the area and are interested in hearing about each space in the home, I suggest visiting at least twice. Otherwise great experience!
Great. Totally worth the extra ticket. You can't help but imagine what living in the house was like. Raises a few questions about the ethics of collection, but good! We should have those conversations. A tremendous exposure to every day life in a very different place (so you can probably guess my pov on whether on balance moving this house was a net positive). Go!
A must see and beautifully rebuilt house from China. Love it. Took about half an hour to walk through. Some areas not accessible and ropes off, but there is an elevator access.
Great visit, but when they say be careful of uneven floor they aren't kidding. Wish it was a bit more accommodating, but I think it accurately reflects the time period. Real cool stuff to look at.
The core value of Yin Yu Tang House is about “native culture”, a needle, a chair, a poster of 60’s, etc., all pieces were moved from China. Thanks to those who devoted their time, money, efforts on this culture immigration, this Chinese house scheduled for demolition is reborn fresh when it comes to the US, and five American immersive experience of Chinese family life just outside their doorstep.
What a surprise! Loved getting to see inside the lives of the people who used to live here, and how the stories of changing fortunes and changing politics can be read in it. I could totally put myself in their shoes and imagine what life would have been like to live there.
Time capsule of Chinese history from a generational family. Timed free roam guides but it's more than enough for the size. Well worth entering the museum alone for.
