Yanagi Sushi & Grill - Japanese restaurant in Santa Maria - 2431 S Broadway, USA

While the service was great and the people were very nice, I’m saddened to say that the food was honestly pretty bad. The fried rice was pretty good, but unfortunately, that is where the flavor ended. While cooking the vegetables, steak, and shrimp, absolutely nothing was used to flavor the food except butter. No soy sauce, no teriyaki sauce, no salt or pepper. Had to try and add soy sauce after the fact to make it anything close to edible. Very sad because with the people being so nice I would love to go back, but I can’t bring myself to pay that much for food that is not enjoyable to eat.

It's pricey but you pay for the experience if you go in to have the chef cook for you. If you want the chef all for just your party, you should go in a party of 8 to 10 if not they may fill in the empty chairs with other customers. Our party was 6 and they filled the other 4 chairs with another party of 4. The food is good, the show is good and the overall atmosphere is lively. No place is perfect when eating out and unfortunately my mother in law found a piece of scrubber wire in her fried rice thus the 4 stars. Whenever you eat out just know that accidents do happen. I let the waitress know and they brought fresh fried rice.

My grandsons favorite place, for his birthday tonight it was his choice. Everything was good, the steak was a bit over cooked for me but the fried rice and veggies were excellent. The miso soup too! We had a party of 9 and its very pricey but good for a special occasions. Food is good but the prices are just too high. We came again for another birthday. Loved Memen the cook but the bill was out of sight!!!

Hands down best service. Had the chicken gyoza and they were so light and crispy. Fried rice and tempura veggies so good. Best crunchy roll I've found in Santa Maria. Well done Yanagi.

Took my grandson to this restaurant and ordered sashimi combo, steak and shrimp. My grandson bit into a fishbone when eating a piece of salmon sashimi. I'm assuming they trained this chef outside behind the restaurant. I would be ashamed of myself if I offered my product like this to my customer. I never experienced this in the 3.5 years that I lived in Okinawa, Japan. Time to scratch this place off of our list. I visually inspected the fish myself and saw the bone.

Yanagi Sushi and Grill surpassed my expectations with their incredible sushi and grill dishes. The fish was fresh, the rolls were creative, and the flavors were spot on. The staff provided friendly and attentive service, making the dining experience enjoyable. I highly recommend Yanagi for an outstanding sushi and amazing grill experience!

Really tasty rolls and pretty good service. Will definitely come back again. We had the Hot Night roll and the Dragon roll which were good. We got our daughter the kids boat which had a nice variety, but the chicken was chicken breast which my daughter doesn't like. It wasn't that dry for chicken breast, but because breast is already naturally dry it wasn't her favorite. We also had the chicken gyoza which were really good, even if the sauce served with it was on the salty side. Overall a good meal for a decent price for sushi in the Central coast.

the fried rice is so delicious! & their rolls are amazing too! the owner is very welcoming & everyone is super friendly! would definitely recommend going there! their tempura ice cream is so yummy!
