We stopped in while visiting Columbia for the first time. We were very impressed with the museum. We have been to a lot of similar places but what stood out about this house was how much of it was original to the 1700s. In addition out guide was simply fantastic! She was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer nearly every question we asked. We highly recommend visiting!
What an absolutely amazing experience! Our tour guide was so kind and patient and super knowledgeable. It was so much fun to learn about Suzey Wright and her history. Only $5, I felt like I walked away richer!!! 100% encourage everyone to go, local or not.
This small museum is fascintating. It's the first museum I've ever been in where you can get a very close look at many interesting household items from the early to mid-1700's. Things aren't just locked up in cases, so you get a real sense of what it was like to live in the period. Our docent, Liz, was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and kindly made accommodations for my 81-year-old dad to sit in a folding chair while we listened and asked questions. There are some stairs which could be a little tricky to navigate for some but I highly recommend visiting if you in the area, especially if you have an interest in vintage fabrics.
Well done! I've been to over 50+ Pennsylvania mansion/houses. While not able to tour each one, I've toured many. If I had to recommend only one, it would be Wright's Ferry Mansion. This mansion museum has it ALL. It was built in the early 1700s, lived in by only 2 families and never neglected. The interior is in great shape. It is chock full of (mostly) original furniture, clocks, textiles, clothing, art, crafts, books, and early household implements and technology. The original owner, Susanna Wright was both cultured and industrious. It's amazing that all of this is intact and was originally gathered in a very small settlement that is still a small town. Every room was perfect and looked as if the original owner had just stepped out. Liz, the assistant curator was marvelous, friendly, full of enthusiasm and knowledge. She had filled the vases with wonderful fresh flowers. I'm ordering the book because I couldn't take it all in at one time and live some distance away. It was worth the trip!
Fascinating place dating back to 1770's that Benjamin Franklin visited. Great tour guide, Liz really detailed what life was like back then. Don't miss seeing this beautiful, historic house!
This is by far one of the best historic buildings I have toured. Not many this old still have the original floors! You truly feel like you are visiting a house that is lived in.
Loved the whole experience! The house is a treasure trove of artifacts, I learned so much about the time period just from glancing around and asking “what’s that?”. My friend and I were so inspired by the life and personality of Susanna Wright. The house really has been maintained to feel as though she just went out and will be back in a minute. Our tour guide took her time with us and seemed in no rush so we really got to linger in each room and take everything in. Will be back!
An 18th C dreamland. This tour is well worth the small $5 admission fee. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable on every object and architectural detail in the home and was a pleasure to speak with. The structure is beautifully preserved and the collection and styling of 18th c objects throughout made this home come to life in a way rarely seen. If you are anywhere near Columbia and are at all interested in architecture, antiquities, decorative arts or history in general, do yourself a favor and stop in.

I went here with my family. Staff was friendly. Lots of awesome items. Lots of history. The highlight was the food. There's a diner in there that makes some great hotdogs. I got a couple chilidogs and a lemonade. They also had bottled coke.
