We checked-in the day prior to an early flight. The front desk staff was professional and helpful going so far as to arrange a 4:45AM shuttle pick up for us. We were concerned as not all shuttles start that early, but it was right on time. The hotel and our room were clean and comfortable. The location is great as the airport is less than 3 minutes away. Don't hesitate to stay here!

A friend dropped us off at the Asheville airport at the start of our vacation. We knew our return flight would arrive around midnight and we didn't want to inconvenience our friend by having him pick us up at such a late hour. So, over two weeks before our stay, I booked a room at the Wingate in Fletcher across the street from the airport. We are Wyndham gold members, so we are very familiar with the brand. Our flight required a long layover in Atlanta. I took the opportunity to call the hotel to notify them that we would be showing up for our reservation, albeit quite late. The clerk assured me that was no problem (and they had my credit card as a guarantee anyway.) Upon arriving in Asheville, we waited a long time for our baggage, so I completed the online check-in as we waited. Then, we were compelled to walk to the hotel since their shuttle had stopped running at midnight and no cabs were available. The reason I mention these details is to explain that we had been traveling for nearly 24 hours straight at this point with no sleep. We were exhausted and not feeling particularly demanding about our stay at the Wingate. When we walked into the hotel lobby, there was no one at the desk, and we weren't immediately greeted. The night clerk was busy getting items ready for breakfast. When he came to the desk, I wasn't sure he had our reservation. The check-in process seemed slow - almost as though we weren't expected. But the reservation was finally located, and we were assigned room 325. We dragged ourselves and our luggage to the third floor only to find a room that wasn't fit for occupancy. The room was hot and extremely humid with two industrial-size fans blowing at high velocity at the floor. Clearly, the carpet was very wet and the room stank of mold or mildew like a dank basement. We turned around and walked out of the room. I went back to the front desk. I began by explaining nicely to the clerk that he might not be aware of the condition of the room he'd assigned us. I requested a room change. He said he'd need to see if he had any other "king" rooms available. I told him we'd take any configuration for two people. Then he began a long, excruciating process of searching the computer, muttering to himself, and shaking his head. After about 15 minutes, he looked up at me and said he didn't have another room. I asked him what we were supposed to do with no car to get to another hotel. Why were we being given this particular room when our reservation was made weeks ago and confirmed earlier that day? The clerk called someone (presumably his manager). They went around and around on the phone. Another guest showed up and checked in. It was around 2 a.m. (an extra half hour later) before we were given a new room directly below the horrible one. It was fine except there was no functioning thermostat for the air conditioning. The fan blew loudly all night and the room was only marginally cool. Still, there was no smell and the room was clean. I was a general manager for a large hospitality organization for over a decade. I understand that sometimes things go wrong, but good managers leave room for contingency plans. Reading other reviews for this hotel leads me to believe that management needs to get their act together. We live locally, but we cannot recommend this Wingate.

Me and my daughter stayed as we had an early flight the next day. The hotel staff was so friendly, the location was directly across from the airport which we loved. We enjoyed the pool and loved how clean and comfortable the rooms were. No complaints at all. Cost of parking was fair and the shuttle to and from the airport is so convenient. Highly recommend

The hotel itself is pretty okay, but became very disappointing this morning. We were looking forward to using the pool and hot tub this morning but with no advance notice, both are closed all day "for cleaning." If cleaning takes 8 hours or more, perhaps it should be done at night so guests can still enjoy some of what they paid for. This is my third stay here, and my last.

I stayed here on August 15th to drop my daughter off at college. We drove 6 hours. That night I wake up to a bedbug biting me. I walk to the front desk to show the clerk what I found and all he could do was change our room. I waited the next morning for the manger to come in and was told she would be in later that day. My issue was of no importance's. I came back later that day and was told that the only thing they could do is give me free night stay, point for being a member which I'm not and will not now, or food from their store. They said since they couldn't find anything I was lying. I would have to go through my booking service to get and compensation. I called customer care and took the case and let management handle it, nothing has been resolved. The second room they moved us to have chips, a coke can, a bottle cap, and bills hidden under furniture, which my children found in the rooms. I will never stay at this hotel again. They do not care about their guest!

Booked a room because it was cheaper and had decent reviews and are family only needed one night. I should have listen to the bad reviews. Everything was outdated and falling apart. Room smelled so bad like musty/mildew and we narrowed it down to the a/c but it was 95 out and we had to run it. Shower curtain was never changed because it still had someone else’s old wash cloth hanging on it. Beds seem clean but super hard and uncomfortable 🥴. Definitely book at a different hotel if you can.

Positive: The location to the airport Negative: The air conditioning did not work in my room and there was no hot water! No one came to try to fix problem after they said they would send someone. No one in management has made any efforts to compensate for a miserable night.

Worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The room card keys did not work until I had to ask the front desk for new ones. The bathroom toiletries were not refilled before I entered the room for the first time, and the bathroom was not cleaned fully either. The phone in the room was not working, and your heavy curtains do not close at all. The central elevator takes so long and feels like it will break down with you in it. The morning buffet was nothing special either. Overall, yes, it is within spitting distance of the airport. But I highly suggest just finding transport from another hotel. I really wish I did so.
