Fun hike. Not too far from visitor center. Very scenic route to this location and the canyon doesnt disappoint. Expect stairs along the way. Canyon is pretty but usually no water in dry season.
Beautiful park with lots to see, some of the trail markers were not very accurate and some trails were closed off so I had to double back more than once. It was my first time visiting. Be aware that the only canyon with any waterfall flowing was Lasalle as of 7/23 (drought).
This is an incredible place hidden in Illinois. It is incredible to see how the water cut through the stone. The hike is not terrible and almost anyone could be capable of getting to it.
There is no charge/fee for entrance.
Trail and raised platforms make up this hike. Many wooden stairs, but well worth it for the scenic value. Very peaceful on a Thursday in April, but apparently quite popular on weekends and summer season. Safe for dogs and kids, but 100 squirrels on the hike.
This was one of the best part of our Starved Rock visits. There are so many ways to view the Canyon. We were here in June and it was a little rainy but I think it kept a lot of the people away. We also hit this as one of the first locations on our visit. We also brought water shoes for the kids to play in the water which was a bad idea. The stones at the bottom of the pool are slightly sharp.
Either way we had a good time and the kids really enjoyed it.
Fun state park! Really unique. There's a restaurant here, cabins to stay in, a nice river and some canyons to climb in and explore. Worth a visit! Very well kept.
The starved rock state park was beautiful with its canyons. You should plan to walk for miles to hike for all the canyons. Just Google it to find all the canyons and get the map. If you are lost just use Google map to return you back to the starved rock state park visitor center.
So pretty, very much worth the trek down to it. We went on a holiday weekend so it was packed
This is one of those town favorites, great pizza, Sam's hard working one man show. And everyone keeps coming back for a reason. If they phone isn't going through, just order in person Sam sometimes gets too busy to attend calls.
The chicken parm is unbelievable! Huge serving that covers the whole plate. Chicken cooked perfectly, can get breaded or grilled. Great homemade dressings too! Can't go wrong with fried chicken either. Love the mozzarella sticks too. Tony and the cr
Beautiful views. I suffer from neuropathy and a messed up back, if you have these issues I would recommend you go early in the morning and take your time the views are worth the pain, it took me about 2 hours on the stairs alone not including the wal
Great place for a gathering. Playground equipment for kids, spot to start a fire (we had corn on the cob cooked on it) and you can reserve it with the town.
