WhyHotel by Placemakr, Columbia - Hotel in Columbia - 6200 Valencia Ln, USA

We stayed here to use the pool and have a relaxing weekend. The pool and lounge area are really nice. WhyHotel, however, is trash. Our room was $168.37 for a Friday from 3pm to 11am the next day. We were barely in the room since we were there for the pool and we kept it neat and clean the whole time. Today, the day after leaving, I was charged an additional $530.00 for a smoking fee despite the fact that there had been no smoking by my party in or out the room, as we are not smokers. I contacted the staff and was told they are investigating and will get back to me. They said there is no estimated time it could take for this investigation, not a day, week, month, etc. They said they have no idea how long it will take. 13 minutes later, they emailed me that they smell smoke so we definitely smoked in the room and they are not refunding the charge. They said "Our policy is to charge the fee and ban the guest, I am forgoing that and only charging the fee." please ban me actually, i will never be back UPDATE: they never reached out despite the response i received below. i actually emailed them again and asked for an update and they ignored that as well

At surface level the apartment appeared to be great. I had a bad experience with Placemakr at Coda earlier this month and wanted to see if I would encounter the same issue in a different location. Sad to say that I did. The housekeeping staff makes me question whether or not the price of the rooms are worth being called luxury. First, there was hair in the shower and the shower head was broken, so when the shower door shut, (which was hard and loud) the shower head hit the floor. We didn’t notice that until later in the night. The furniture had dark stains on the seating cushions and white stains on the pillow area. I’m not sitting there. Luckily I brought my own bedding to cover the couch in. The bed had three pillows on it and the fourth one was in the closet. I grabbed it and threw it on the bed only to see blood on it. I took it to the office on Sunday morning and a picture was taken of it by staff. I had already taken my own. The kitchen stove had stains on it and old food was crammed on both sides in a poor attempt to clean it I guess and the knives were dirty. Back to the bathroom, the lights kept flickering and that was kind of scary considering that we had just watched Abigail. The parking garage was an absolute nightmare. I would recommend using Uber or Lyft. The apartment was uncomfortable throughout the night. The thermostat was set to 69 however it kept reading 77 and carbon monoxide levels were high during my 3 night stay

Location is great! Right in the center of the new development and is walkable from all of the restaurants. I appreciated the signs to help navigate how to get to the hotel. Mind you this is not a typical hotel set up. There was no phone in the room to call for room service; however the texting feature was convenient. The rooms were very clean which was nice. Reason for 3 stars include small amount of towels and bed size. I wish there were additional ones provided with the room like in typical hotels. The reservation said it was a queen bed and it appears to be a full size bed. I have a queen at home and have stayed in many hotels with queen beds and this appeared to be very small for a queen.

Every time I come to Maryland and DC area, I stay here and will continue to do so. Love the spacious accommodations and full kitchen. Did I mention how clean it is?? Love it here. If I ever need to move here I would certainly look at these apartments.

This place gets 10 stars. Excellent customer service starts at first interaction. Moments after booking via a popular online booking service, I emailed the hotel requesting for an early check-in. I received a reply within 20 minutes. I booked the room at 2:16 am. I was impressed. I wasn't promised an earlier check-in however, I was given instructions at to how to request when the morning shift arrived. The check-in process is streamlined to make your stay super simple. The desk agents are pleasant and accommodating. My room was beautiful. Brand new Everything! I booked the one bedroom and I am more than impressed. So much so that I'm looking into staying for an extended period of time. The bathroom is huge with a Real Soaking Tub! What a treat for my autoimmune illness. The gym is state of the art. Equipped with every work out machine/tools available. Some unit have balconies which add a homey feel. I am the queen of "honest" reviews. I am a single, professional, woman. This set up is perfect for me. Those with families, I can't attest. There is a pool on side, making it a good option for kids. Great customer service doesn't incorporate promises. Just a willingness to make it better. Kudos to C. Stanley, Director of Sales. She is another reason I am pleased with my stay. These guys are on the ball here. Her email response was as quick as the desk agents was. This may not be a big deal for you, but for me it speaks volumes. And what it's been telling me for the past three days is Superior Customer Service!

My sister rented a 3 bedroom apartment for the weekend and we will never come here again. They questioned every guest that came to visit us. They were watching who came in the parking lot and being rude to them about parking. Complaining about every little thing . And we just got there . It was really a Terrible Experience. Maybe because we stayed on the 4th floor next to the Office . But please Beware !!!! of Allllllllllllllllllllll The Rules !!! If you book here .

This place had a nice rooms, it was tidy. But it was very unorganized and chaotic trying to get into the room. First, it’s based in an apartment building and there weren’t specific instructions on how to actually get to that floor, we had asked someone in the reception for the apartment. Then, when we got there, we were told our room was not ready, and we were told about an hour till it’s ready. So we went around the area and waited way over an hour before we called them to see what was going on and they said our room was still not ready. So going on two hours we called again, and we were met with hostility over the phone because we had called the second time and they didn’t call us to tell us our room was ready . So we went to the location and we were met with security guard at the front of the office and the front desk rep that had told us it wasn’t ready. She Isabelle (Belle) was so rude and confrontational about everything. It was very disrespectful and aggressive the way she came at us when she was in the wrong. Having people like that work for this hotel is so deplorable and unsafe. We decided not to stay there for the day and got refunded because it was not worth it for the disrespect to me and my friends.

Great location for hotel. Beautiful little town square. Great options for restaurants surrounding the hotel. I appreciate the unique concept for this hotel being that it's a whole apartment to yourself, with the use of the buildings amenities. The only feedback I would have is that it's a little bit confusing to check in considering you need to go all the way up to the fourth floor to find guest services. If your booking through a third party please check and see if they give you an access code to be able to access the parking garage. Looking forward to my next stay at a whyhotel.
