We went to see the Sandhill Cranes in early December. The website said early morning or sunset would be good, we were there just after noon and eeee treated to thousands of these birds flying overhead and landing. The viewing platforms have wheelchair access and small spotting scopes setup at chair level.
Wonderful Refuge to enjoy the Sandhill Cranes. We stayed for 3 hours just watching them fly back from the grain fields and enjoying the refuge. 2 hours from Tucson.
Great place to view the Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese and many many more waterfowl. Even saw a Golden Eagle. I plan to go back again and spend more time there.
Wow. All the cranes. Restrooms and paths also. Come enjoy. Road is dirt for about a mile so please make sure your car is down with dirt roads. There are more than just cranes here.
Came in October to see the Sandhill Cranes. Arrived pre-sunrise and didn’t see any cranes. Came back at 10am and watched tons of them coming back from feeding. Excellent viewing area. Will definitely be coming back.
Such a peaceful place to watch birds and relax. Great walking path with scattered seating. Several people brought their own folding chairs and thats a smart idea.
If you're interested in Sandhill Cranes, you can see them here now! They migrate from the north by the thousands and some winter at this small marshland reserve. Picnic tables and crude toilets are available. There's a short pleasant path and Lookout areas to get a better view. Take your lunch, water, camera and jacket! They come and go during the day so google sandhill cranes at Whitewater Draw for more details on their habits. I saw at least 1000 of them!
Very cool experience. Of course there were people there talking loudly and scaring the birds. 😖

Great campground! The owners are very friendly and accommodating. We pulled in late and had run out of propane the night before. The owner happily filled our tanks for us even though it was after hours. The park and the ammendies were very clean.
