White Marlin Inn - Motel in Virginia Beach - 395 Norfolk Ave, USA

I had the very unfortunate experience of a last minute work trip and spent a month here. To say I was terrified, would be an understatement. Multiple times I came back to police activity in the parking lot. There was lots of "motel" activity, including fights, drug usage (beyond marijuana), and what I came to find out was prostitution on various occasions. There were many nights that I would overhear the sometimes violent conversations that were happening right outside my door, which was very unnerving. I was constantly debating calling the police, but shut the idea down as I was the anomaly in the situation. ||||I'm questioning the rates and booking process as I often woke up to multiple vagrants hanging around the rooms and parking lot. I witnessed many times, these vagrants helping to clean the rooms in the mornings. I'm assuming this is how they paid for their stay sometimes. For this reason, I did not want ANYONE in my room during my absence. I know people were staying for free at times, because I witnessed an argument between a guest and the manager in regards to how she had to give her room up to a paying customer that weekend. ||||While it is a stone's throw from the Virginia Beach strip and multiple dining facilities, good luck feeling safe enough to walk through the parking lot to get there. I was often torn between the option to stay elsewhere some nights, but feared risking my door being kicked in due to my obvious absence. Likewise, I was often scared to be there to begin with. ||||Despite reaching out multiple times, I was never provided a receipt for my stay, which I needed to provide to work based on my travel itinerary. I was even told "we haven't had anyone stay here for a month" and "we don't keep records". I understand it's a motel, but come on! It's bad business, and leads me to believe there is no need for an honest guest to plan a stay here.||||While it was a place to stay that was available during my trip, it was too stressful to stay at for me to leave a good review. The added irritation I have that I was never provided an invoice does not help. If I could give a lower rating, I would.

When booking this my expectations was a dated motor lodge, that is a handy man special. She exceeded my expectations. Very hard working lady running the place. I'd recommend treating her like the lady she is. With the lowest rates on the beach I'm sure she's seen it all. All I wanted was a place to sleep and shower, as there is so much to do, and this went beyond. Very well lit parking lot at night, stay to the side on the stairs (like I stated handy man special).

The woman at the front desk is awesome! She's there year after year every year that I come! She's the only one cleaning rooms, taking phone calls, check in guests, and checking them out! She doesn't get enough credit! People think she's being mean because she asks them to wait, what they don't realize is she's the only one. She made sure I was accommodated for everything that I needed and made sure that my air conditioner wasn't leaking cuz she was having problems in some of the rooms. She made me feel very welcomed and I am happy to go there again next year. I've been going for 3 yr now n won't go anywhere else

We stayed here recently after a small stay at norfolk beach and let me tell you, the professionalism and cleanliness were much appreciated for a lower priced motel. It's oldschool decorated but clean with a great location, just a block walk from the boardwalk and beach. We would definitely stay here again...the lady in the office was a plus! I wish I had gotten her name.

I think the bad reviews really make this place look/sound bad when really that was not the case at all. I recently just stayed at this motel for 2 nights 3 days and my personal experience here was amazing. The front desk lady whom i forgot to get her name, she was super nice. I will be coming back next year!

I honestly can not believe this place has not been condemned. It is old, dilapidated, dirty, smells like cigarettes and mold, and there are bugs all over. It just seemed super unsafe (possible the building could've collapsed or you could be murdered here).||||When you first drive in you are welcomed by a speaker blaring rap music, a pit bull in a cage, and some shady characters chain smoking. The woman at the front desk (I guess the manager?) was so rude it was almost comical. She was pissed off the moment we walked in and ended up cussing at us multiple times. She threw the key at as and stormed out of the office. While we were walking to the room she continued to yell at us and talk about us to the people chain smoking in the parking lot. It was the most bizarre interaction.||||The only reason we didn't hop back in the car and search for something else (ANYTHING would've been better) was because I had pre-payed and knew I would never get my money back. Honestly sleeping in your car would be better than place.||||I have never stayed in such a crappy motel in my life and have never been cussed out like that!

1st off all any pictures you see online of this place are bait and switch. This place is HORRIBLE. Upon arrival I just knew I was in the wrong place because the pictures didn't match up. Upon arrival I had to wait for the desk person to come give me my keys when I looked at the room I immediately went back downstairs to tell her that I needed a refund but not surprisingly she was gone. I then contacted the travel app used to book and they tried to contact for 3 days with no luck. Then after finally getting in contact with them they lied and said they issued a refund prior when I never had a chance to speak to anyone because the hotel person was mia. Please don't waste your money or risk your health staying here

I show up and I get in my room and I wanted to leave right away. There was substance all over the television and the mirrors. There was mold on the beds and the covers had mold on them. I checked out right away and never got my money back, while the lady yelled at me like it was my fault. I am very disappointed. This ruined my whole trip.
