A nice inn far enough from the city to not have all the congestion yet close enough if you want it. The rooms are nice, and the beds are comfortable. The ADA room worked great for me. the bed allowed my lift under neathand it no problem. The bathroom was plenty big to move around. No problem. The shower was a little on the small side, but it was easily rolled into with no lip or bump. All in all, it's a great place to stay. View of the lave is great to wake up to.
The one thing that surprised me but was not a big concern for me was there was no wheelchair access to the check-in area, but the staff gladly came out, and we were able to handle business there.
Absolutely loved staying here. I wished we could have stayed longer. The place was perfect for our party of five - two adults and three teenagers. We had adjoining rooms and patio. There is a common kitchen area which enabled us to prepare our meals and sit as a family to dine. All the kids LOVED Hank the resident cat :) The Whaleback Inn is located across the street from the water with gorgeous views. We are not a family of swimmers, so it was perfect for us. Although, they do have water vessels to use/checkout if that’s your thing. It was a short drive into a couple of quiet towns. Very enjoyable stay.
Had a lovely stay at the Whaleback Inn. Stayed 2 nights at the Maple cottage with 4 people. It easily accommodates 6. The cottage is quite roomy. Plenty of sitting space and a roomy kitchen. Everything was spotless and the furniture looked quite new. There's a double bed on the ground floor and 4 single beds on the first floor.
Fair warning: the single beds on the first floor are placed 2 in a 'room' but the rooms are connected by an open portal. So this cottage would be more suited for a family rather than multiple couples. But if you're happy with this arrangement it's not a problem at all.
The owners were friendly and accommodating. There's coffee available in the mornings and snacks and demineralized water.
The location is quite convenient to explore the area. After a day if exploring it's quite nice to just relax on the porch or take a short walk down to the lake to enjoy the nights' sky.
Also as a bonus: the Innkeeper cat 'Hank' is friendly and likes a pat on the head when he's making his rounds to see if the guests are doing ok.
My wife, my adult son and I spent three nights at the Whaleback Inn last week (August 15) and had a great experience. The innkeepers, Ty and Rachel were excellent representatives of the Inn. Always available to answer questions and offer suggestions. I would recommend this Inn to anyone traveling in the area. The views of the lake and the morning coffee and muffins on the giant porch will be forever remembered. This will be my choice whenever we are in the area. Thank you Ty and Rachel, you made our visit memorable.
The setting and location is wonderful, allows for tranquil relaxation while enjoying sunrises across the lake. Shower was a little tight in the room, but the accommodations were more than adequate to make up for a small shower. With a short drive/walk into Leland this was an ideal spot to enjoy northern Michigan.
Rustic Luxury. Beds are super comfortable. Rooms smell nice. WBI overlooks Lake Leelanau. You have to cross the road to get to its water access but there is a dock, sitting area, boat and kayaks available. There is a common area with toaster, refrigerator, freezer with ice, micro wave, etc. Innkeepers are friendly, professional. Hank the Cat makes his rounds visiting guests. WBI is also conveniently located for travel to local destinations. Coffee served every morning from 7:30 to 9:00 am. Our happy place. Up north cottage feel with the all of the comfort of a really nice hotel.
This Inn lived up to the great views. The property is well taken care of, clean and charming. Plenty of outdoor seating or even walk across the road and sit on the pier. Our room had a view of the lake so we enjoyed sitting on the patio. So peaceful! Say hi to Hank, the rotund cat, I should have taken his photo.
You will relax the moment you arrive at the Whaleback Inn. We were warmly greeted and shown the amenities of the property. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had a lake view room and I loved looking at the lake from our patio. The grounds are well maintained with many places to sit outside - on the lawn, porch or your patio -to take in the lovely scenery. Bring your dinner or glass of wine and unwind outside. After a day of hiking at Sleeping Bear Dunes, I couldn't wit to cool off my feet in the lake and reading a book on their dock. We ate breakfast on the porch each morning. Thank you for all of your hard work to make our stay so memorable. I am already looking forward to another stay here.
