One of the coolest stops on our trip. We really like a lot of the ghost shows on TV and this is one of the places that a lot of those groups come. Even though we just did the 90 minute guided tour it was really cool to see and hear about all the things that went on in the prison while it was in use. Our guide Lee was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer questions and tell stories about things that have happened there. If you are ever in the area and have a chance this is definitely a worth while stop. The mound that the native tribes built is right across the street from here as well and is another worth while stop. It's almost like a two for one deal since they are so close.

Very neat historical tour. Enjoyed the museum at the beginning that held a ton of old documents, personal accounts and old newspaper articles about the prison. It was also interesting to learn three men would have to share a 5x7 room for 22 hours a day and then getting to walk through the actual cells. Very educational and interesting to walk the grounds. No paranormal activity what so ever and the groups were large. Also wish there was an option to see more of the prison that didn’t cost over $100.

First things first- This prison is on an Indian burial ground. So If that’s not going to sit right with your spirit, soul, or conscious, I may say skip this one. Also for the majority of the tours there is lots of walking and lots of stairs , so be prepared. This prison is said to be extremely haunted, and full of rich scary history. We took the nighttime north walk tour during Halloween. Very creepy experience! We got the abridged version of the max security area, and some fun scary anecdote’s. Our guid seemed knowledgeable, answered all the group questions, and kept us entertained. Definitely a must see if you’re in the area!

Terri was great! Got the tour group signed in quickly and then spent time giving additional details about historical items in the gift shop/museum entry and other sites in the area. And luckily, this is one prison entry that doesn't require a strip search! Garrett was the guide, and is a wealth of knowledge on the prison and former inmates. Garrett is funny, and has lots of stories to share. I would recommend buying tickets online prior to visiting. They offer a variety of different types of tours and they fill up fast!

Pros: Absolutely beautifully done masonry; very clean, yes, really! Friendly and pleasant staff. Cons: Smaller than I thought, a lot of noise contamination if there are probably more than 30 people in the building; for tours not a problem, but for paranormal investigation, a big problem :) I recommend you visit the place at least once and decide! Been there a few times, not much activity regarding paranormal events at any time; however, I visit these sorts of places for the history aspect over paranormal investigations. I have been investigating for decades, but history is my first true love! Visit this place at least one if you do love history, masonry, etc. you shall not be disappointed!

Had a fantastic time touring the historic Moundsville Penitentiary. It gives off very creepy vibes and I can definitely see why people say that it's haunted. My tour guide Garrett was very good and insightful to how the former penitentiary operated, as he was a former correctional officer himself. I highly recommend taking the time to tour the Penitentiary. Best part of the tour was being locked in an actual cell just like the inmates were. I will definitely be back in the future.

Lee was an excellent tour guide! This prison has a lot of history and it’s very interesting. I’m very great full to have gotten to tour the location before the close of the season. There is no hear so in cooler months be sure to dress for the out side temperature.

Great BAR, because that's what it is. A BAR THAT SERVES FOOD. So all the morons complaining "Oh they were rude when we brought our 13 yr old into a smoking, gambling, BAR" n giving low reviews is bc they're idiots n don't know that kids can't be in

It is very conveniently located next to the temple. We go there to spiritually recharge and be ready to come for a life filled with hustle and bustle. Please note that this is a temple filled with a spiritual environment and not a hotel or resort but
