Beautiful, serene, informative. My mother, an artist, had been wanting to go here for 15 years. The look on her face said it all. She was inspired. I couldn’t help but feel inspired, myself. Weir Farm is secluded. You have to drive through rolling hills and wilderness to get there, but it’s worth it. My parents, my sister, and I went here in June and it was perfect. Everything was green. You can see why artists would gather here to create amazing works. The volunteers love what they do, you can tell. Take a tour through the studios and farmhouse. Everything is well crafted and faithfully preserved from Weir’s time here. I loved that they give you the ability to create a watercolor piece of your own - for free. It’s peaceful to sit on the grass and paint. Highly recommend going here.
This is a beautiful National Historic Site with preserved Weir house, barn and art studios. When we visited the grounds we saw an artist painting and people enjoying the open fields and gardens. There is an Artists in Residence program that gives artists a month to live and work on their art while there.
This is my new favorite park to visit. Beautiful grounds and a lot to do. You can take the paint supplies provided in park (no charge) and paint outside. We really enjoyed our time there.
Beautiful place to visit, hike, tour the homestead and art studios… they even provide supplies to utilize while there to create your own work of art!
This is a very quiet National Park. It’s rather deep into the Connecticut countryside (I think) and that helps showcase where Weir wanted to be when he was painting. The grounds are very nice, but make sure to watch out for mud when it’s damp out! Also there are bears 🐻
We had attempted to visit over Christmas break, and the houses were closed. We were successful this week. The Visitor center was open, as well as the house and studio for pop-up tours. We didn't take the trail to the lake, but walked around the grounds. There is a lot of history and things for those interested in art and history.
There is a meadow which is pleasant to walk in. I like the bear wood cut outs. But as you walk into the woods the trails contain a lot of roots and rocks. It is mostly flat, so right after a good rain expect a little mud. Lots of mtn Laurel but not yet in bloom. Maybe in late may
If you're interested in painting landscapes, then this is absolutely the place to be for you. I have been here on weekends where talented artists make themselves available for advice while painting landscapes. At that time they provided watercolor supplies and paper for public use. What an incredible place.

Love this place and Dr. S is the best! He gave my super loving Kody his vision back after going blind from cataracts as a byproduct of diabetes at only 8. We didn't realize how sad my pup was until we saw how happy he was after getting his vision bac
