Beautiful area with awesome historical buildings. Museum was not open, but the authentic log home was awesome!! Some work going on for repairs when I visited, and the shingling of the roof was cool to see. Awesome play area and clean picnic and bathrooms.
The shelter was very nice, new tables and clean. Bathrooms were clean and well supplied. We'll be renting there again..
Amazing bike/hiking trails, can't wait to come back when it's not raining. Also there is only one dog poop station at the trailhead and it doesn't have poo bags so bring your own bags for dog poo clean up. 👍
The park is very well managed and maintained. I ride mountain bike at the park 3-5 days a week. It's a real treasure.
Great place to walk around, with little play grounds everywhere. Take the whole family for a perfect picking play date! Just wish they offered camping!
Wish we could have actually toured it but great park
This particular state park is mostly oriented towards adults and seniors, to be entirely fair to the reader and potential tourist. With that said, there's plenty to see and do, but it lacks much interest for children (so bring a few toys). The theme here is like taking a step back in time, a big step, it's rich in photo opportunities and family get-together potential, there's plenty of space and even on holiday times you won't be crowded. It's wooded and there's some driving, it's more for relaxing rather than for the busy looker. The pool was removed, so that might not bode well for its attraction, but as I stated, it's more oriented towards a slightly older crowd. The most popular thing that I've seen people doing there is packing a picnic lunch for a relaxing day just talking and taking it easy. That's what we've always done when we go too, it's just the perfect kind of place for a picnic. Take your camera, there's historical structures and a lot of potential for personal pictures with family and friends. If you're expecting anything exciting, then you might want to keep searching, I'm just being honest, gas prices are up and nobody wants to waste a trip or a weekend. However, if you're looking for a very pleasant state park, where you can enjoy the quiet, learn some WV history, eat a picnic lunch and take a few pictures, then check it out for sure. Although I can't swear to it, I believe there's a gift shop and a place to dine, but I don't get into that, so I can't say for sure.
I grew up going to this park! It it still just as beautiful and peaceful than ever!
