Wanderstay Houston Hostel - Hostel in Houston - 4018 Chartres St, USA

Had a great visit to Wanderstay Houston Hostel. Great conversation, and met people visiting from all over the world. As always, the facility was well maintained (just a temporary issue with entering through the front door due to a recent storm, though the side door worked fine and it was still possible to exit through the front). Shower was nice and hot, and the bed was quite comfortable.

Starting with the location near a square with creepy guys using drugs. Near the bridge, in an unsafe neighborhood. The hostel beds are fine, you can use the kitchen and the common room is ok. Expecting someone at the front desk? Nops, that won’t happen. There are no employees and shall something happen, you can call 911 for good… During my stay, I had a personal item stolen from my bed (35 dollars to the trash). No investigation was held. The other lady had her wine drunk, with no answer from the terrible management. The guy from India had to park his car on the street because the parking lot was locked and no one from the hostel would tell him the device to open was already with one of the guests, risking his car to be stolen. Not to mention the bathroom was locked with not a single soul to help unlock it… Not an option in Houston.

I booked it the same day and didn’t realize there was a form I had to fill out before being automatically expected so this was a bit of a surprise for me since most hostels don’t operate like that. My anxiety wore off quick since the email was answered quickly and the form was only a 1-2 minute process with the hardest part being attaching a photo of my license to the form. Once inside it was a very clean and up to date hostel . More than one bathroom Great ac for August huge bed not the standard twin bunks in a hostel. Neighborhood looked sketchy but I left my rental car out front in the street no issues and got going to where I needed no problem Was a quiet neiborhood . Overall a 9/10 experience

The place was nice and clean to stay. It is located in a quiet area with minimal noise. There are no nearby shops or stores for shopping. You will need to travel by local bus or Uber/Lyft if you plan to go shopping. There are nearby food joints within a walkable range of 15-20 minutes.

My stay at Wanderstay in Houston was amazing! The rooms were immaculately clean. The service was excellent and even requests were honored in a timely manner. The location allowed me to get to and from shopping, meetings and sites of interest in Houston. Un bon endroit pour séjourner quelque jours à bas prix. L’endroit est bien entretenu et joliment décoré. Restaurant et bars sont disponibles à pied à proximité et j’ai bien apprécié. J’ai eu un problème non résolue même après en avoir parlé à deux personnes différentes. La douche de ma chambre n’avait aucune pression. J’ai donc dû utiliser une des douches communes qui fonctionnait très bien. J’ai apprécié mon séjour mais je ne reviendrais pas.

**Great location for conference attendees, but communication needs improvement.** This hotel was perfect for my conference due to its close proximity (9 minutes away) and the ability to avoid Houston traffic. However, check-in was a hassle. Despite confirming my late arrival and parking via email, no one was at the front desk, and the provided phone numbers went unanswered. This was concerning, especially since the emergency number wasn't responsive. Fortunately, the staff via the third phone number I received eventually resolved the issue and found me a private room after I requested a switch. The staff on that line provided excellent customer service. Overall, the location was ideal, but improve communication, especially regarding after-hours check-in. I would consider staying here again for a solo trip, but only if I could confirm a private room beforehand.

I have to fly to Houston from North Carolina at least twice a year for cancer care at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Since air fare, food and lodging can be quite expensive, over time I have explored ways to reduce these costs. Wanderstay Houston has enabled me to have a place to stay for about 1/4 to 1/3 of what it would cost me to stay in a hotel. For just $68 a night, I get a private room with an en suite bathroom. Sure, the room is small and very basic, with just a full-size bunk bed, a desk and chair, but it is clean, quiet and safe, and that's all I need during these trips. It is just a short Uber ride to MD Anderson, and several restaurants are close by.
