Friends suggested this place for chowder! After the gondola ride at Crystal, this is where we came for lunch on a Saturday. No wait, seated right away for a party of 5, near the bar where you’re surrounded with TVs to watch the football game! I ordered the shrimp and lobster quesadilla and glad they had a half order and a side cup white chowder! Everything was delicious- should have gotten a bowl size chowder! Fish and chips and chicken strips were fried to perfection. We were satisfied.

What a charming place! The food was super great and fresh. My mom is super hard to please, and she was so happy with the food. However, our server (we think his name was Sean but he never introduced himself; that was the name on the bill) was absolutely terrible. I’m not sure why he was so cold to our table when he was warm to every other table around us. We called ahead to ask if coming in at 8:00 (half an hour before closing) would be a problem, and they said “absolutely not a problem.” His service was so bad that we would not return to this establishment. I understand that people have bad days but our treatment was absolutely uncalled for. 10 minutes to greet our table, an additional 10 minutes to bring out drinks after ordering, 10+ minutes for clam chowder (another table was served prior to us even though they sat 10+ minutes after us). That’s not to mention how he did not say anything when dropping off food or forgetting to come back with things we asked for but then not apologizing when realizing he forgot… I love to support mom and pop spots, and it’s unfortunate that someone can ruin a perfectly good restaurant with their rude behavior.

I love Wally's, and my family has been going there for years. The food is SO good, and their clam chowder is the best I've ever had hands down! I always get the fresh ling cod tacos pictured here, with a cup of chowder on the side. It's usually pretty busy, so go early and be prepared to wait - it's worth it!

This is such a cute place, wish you could see the water. This place was recommend to us by our hotel, as it was our last night in Washington we obviously wanted fresh seafood. Everyone we encouraged was friendly and kind! It was very busy being a Monday night, but a very minimal wait. We ordered the fresh ling cod fish & chips (8.5/10) and the blackened ling cod tacos (9.5/10). I wish the tacos came with more sauce and lemon but overall great!! A little more pricier than the other food we had got our trip that was the same.

Loooooong time local favorite albeit a bit out of the way, but totally worth the visit to Des Moines. Been coming for years and love the portions, chowder and overall experience every time. Love that you can order LARGE portions of the fish of your choice. Nice big platter! Chowder is quite lovely and available to-go.Crab cesar is another notable fave! Make a point to put this long-running seafood parlor on your short(er) list!

The restaurant has very fresh food. It tasted great! The inside is cozy, with great service . The bathrooms need more modernization. One thing to note is thair happy hour is for bar seats only, so it's very disappointing. Otherwise, prices are still fair, so I highly recommend them!

Great dinner at Wally’s. They don’t take reservations, but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table on Sunday night around 7pm. Highly recommend Clam Chowder, Crab Cakes and fresh Halibut. Halibut Taco dinner was huge! Definitely shareable.

If you have a little one, make sure to bring them for lunch, they always get to try the Amazing Clam chowder on the house. Their Food IS AMAZING
