The VMFA outdoor art collection is every bit as impressive ... take the time to wander the sculptures including works by world famous artists including Henry Moore, Kehinde Wiley, Dale Chihuly, and Jaume Plensa amongst many others.
Museum District is arguably the best area in Richmond to live in. One of the main reasons is having this awesome museum and its grounds readily available to all the local residents free of cost!
I went on a beautiful and warm Fall day.
Great place just to hangout, picnic, or like me enjoy a late night walk. I can’t say enough about this museum and it’s accessibility to the public and their enjoyment! If you’re looking for a pretty cool spot just to sit, read , walk, think, etc che knout the VMFA sculpture garden!
Relaxing picnic type vibes. Whether you walk around or set up the blanket, plenty of room. Sculptures are interesting and beautiful. A definite must see if in Richmond, VA.
So much beauty and history in this magnificent place! The pictures don't do it justice, this is my second time visiting and I'm still in awe. Keep up the amazing work of arts here.
The Art Museum offers fantastic alternating exhibits. It is "hooked up" and gets exhibits that are normally restricted to places like The Met, The Seattle Art museum etc. Huge metropolitan cities that are 10 times the size of Richmond. I feel very fortunate to have this up the street from me
We live just around the corner from here and use the space often. It's always well kept the atmosphere has always been great in my opinion. It's a great space to met up with friends and also just to walk through. For the size of Richmond, it's incredible to see an art gallery of this sort here. It wouldn't be out of place in a big city like, New York, Paris London etc. Richmond should be proud of such an amazing resource. I wouldn't necessarily say it's worth a trip just for the garden if you are coming from a far. But you would combine your visit with the rest of the VMFA.
