Ellen was a wonderful hostess and the property is delightful and relaxing. Rooms are cozy and clean. Beautiful view of the mountains and their pond. Goats, bunnies, ducks, and guinea pigs are on the property and adorable. Close to the D-Day Memorial which is a “must see” when in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We have been staying at Vanquility Acres Inn for 12 years, and we find Ellen and John always accommodating and helpful. We stay in the Peaks View Cottage and the view of the mountains is beautiful it is calm and a wonderful place to relax. We have stayed in the main house in the past which is equally relaxing!
We had such a lovely stay at Vanquility Acres! The mountain views are spectacular and we enjoyed the goats, chickens, ducks, bunnies and guinea pigs. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Ellen has thought of everything, the kitchen very well stocked and the special touch of fresh eggs, homemade banana bread, apple butter and peach jam made it extra special. Sitting by the chiminea on a crisp fall night was perfect. Ellen and John's hospitality is unsurpassed.
Check-in was a breeze. We were met by Ellen who showed us our accommodations. We stayed in the Bedford suite and paid the extra $20 to include the whole first floor including kitchen and extra sleep sofa . She provided maps and dinner recommendations. There is a great outdoor space with beautiful views toward the Peaks of Otter. Ten minute drive to downtown Bedford and the D-Day memorial. She also provides fresh eggs and a great Zucchini bread. Thanks for a great and relaxing stay.
My husband and I stayed at Vanquility Acres Inn during a trip celebrating our 30th Anniversary. We only stayed one night in the Vanquility Cottage as we were travelling the Blue Ridge Parkway. We truly enjoyed ourselves and would have stayed longer if time allowed. After visiting the D-Day Museum in the town of Bedford (highly recommend), we checked in with our wonderful hosts, Ellen and John. We loved the the beautiful surroundings, pet the friendly goats (watching them cross over the cutest bridge built just for them), and watched as various birds flew over the pond in the backyard. We were supposed to go out that night but enjoyed our view and time there so much that we just sat out back and took in the beautiful scenes around us. We relaxed and enjoyed the serenity. I've already recommended this Inn to others! By the way, Ellen makes a very moist and tasty Zucchini Bread!
Very roomy, beautiful views of the rolling hills and the Peaks of Otter. Playful goats. Great place for intimate stay or a family and friend gathering. Hike, bike, stroll, the wonderful town of historical Bedford. The town of Bedford has great shops, awesome food to choose from. History, art and greasy air abounds.
We stayed in the vanquility cottage which was on the lower level of main house and had a sun room, a living room and a bedroom ad covered over outdoor sitting area. Sun room overlooked peaks of otter. Living room had a kitchenette area with coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave and electric frying pan/skillet and normal sized fridge. Banana bread and instant oatmeal available in a basket, along with home made fruit butter (can’t remember if it was apple butter). John and Ellen the hosts are a lovely couple, the cottage is furnished with lots of personal touches. Like staying as a house guest in someone’s home. They were great to talk to. There was a baby goat born that morning and we got to hold it. The place was filled with songs of birds, bullfrogs, goats occasionally bleating—it is a wonderful oasis for the soul. WiFI in our cottage was excellent. Everything was spick and span clean. Sheets are actually air dryed on the line outside! Which give them such a nice fresh air scent. This was one of the best bed and breakfasts i have stayed in — but much more than that since it’s not really breakfast although she did make banana bread and leave some provisions. It is a bit out of town in the country but well worth the atmosphere
We stayed here overnight for our 23rd anniversary. The room was clean and spacious. We loved the patio and enjoyed sitting at the fire pit listening to the frogs down at the pond. Fresh banana bread was waiting for us when we checked in. Owner was very knowledgeable about recommending restaurants and the best times to go places to avoid a crowd. Property was beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed watching several geese and loved seeing a sweet baby goat. Good Wi-Fi reception and selection of cable channels. There was a cabinet full of games to enjoy. We felt at home. Can’t wait to go back and bring my daughter for a mother/daughter weekend.
Perhaps the most informative and amazing memorial of its kind that I have ever seen. Do NOT pass this up- I did for two years, not realizing that this is THE NATIONAL D-DAY MEMORIAL. if you have a desire to learn more about Operation OVERLORD and it
Awesome nature center with truly beautiful, beyond-average hiking trails. The Big Otter River runs right through the place. Great walls and shelves of rock line the river edges and giant boulders lie below in the water. There are alternating areas
