Beautiful views, nice off-roading, Respect to those memorialized here.
Loved this place! It is amazing! The creativity alone is worth the drive! I was very surprised to not find much trash. Most well traveled BLM land will have some amount of trash laying around. This one doesn't! Makes me happy that the space is maintained by the visitors! Now, there is a sign and plenty of articles that say a 4x4 is recommended or needed. I drove there in a converted Honda Odyssey minivan and didn't even lower the pressure in my tires. Slow and steady is all it took! I left a mark for a coworker and a couple friends. Good times and my 12 Year old self was satisfied...
About 5 miles north of winterhaven Ca. And worth the drive! Some will say " ya gotta have a 4 wheel drive vehicle just to get there", to this I say p'shaw... We made the trek here in a Mazda CX5 and had no problem. I would have drove here in a Prius, just watch for rocks if ground clearance is an issue.
Once there allow time to explore as this area is big with much to see! Yes, it is rocks spelling out the names of people, dates and memories of loved ones and is very unique. Oldest name i seen was 1958.
Remember, this is the desert and cell service is sketchy at best, bring extra water and watch for any hazards in the desert landscape. Most of all enjoy the history, pack it in, pack it out.
The Valley of the Names is a unique place to visit in the Southern California desert. There is a five mile dirt road you just take to get to the valley of the names. It is essentially graffiti since it does affect the natural landscape of the desert by the moving and painting of rocks in the area. I recommend visiting if interested, but it is all man made and nothing natural about it. I would advise not to move rocks to make your own name, since it will only add to the growth of the impact on the natural desert landscape.
awesome place to check out all the names and memorials there
Really cool place...some of the names are big enough to read them from Google earth.
Cool little off road drive that takes you to a desert area with lots of rocks made into names. Bring your own rocks if you want to put your name out there. No one else there when we went. Easy drive there buy definitely has lots of wash boards.
Extensive! It's really grown in the last 10 years. Bring your own rock, painted golf balls, brick etc & create a monument. So even have solar lights!
Went there today, 02/03/23. Nobody there. Drove a 2005 Chevy Malibu the 40miles or more of dirt road. Excellently maintained! Itâs beautiful there. Didnât see any critters at all. Only people we saw were Rangers. Was hoping to see a burro or two.
Great place to stay. Clean area and super friendly people who work there!!! We stay about 4 months and never had any problems. Close to Yuma, AZ ( 2minute drive ). Right on the Colorado River, with walking inlets. Nice pool and hot tube space and cle
