Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve - Nature preserve in Newport Beach - 2301 University Dr, USA

Never knew about this place until my husband took me. What a cool little spot! From the moment we got there, a lady taught us to listen for a specific bird sound and told us what it’s name was. The visitor center was really cool, has a neat video of the animals that live there, and tanks of other creatures like lizards and snakes. Their bathrooms are clean too. When we walked around down the path and near the water, saw some ducks and ground squirrels. I definitely want to come back!!

Wonderful walk or hike in the back bay full of beautiful scenery along the way. Completely paved with areas to walk out near the water for observing and viewing. Many people riding bikes or jogging as well as others walking. Plenty of free parking.

I used to be a druggy and slept in the back bay,I got sober 1998 (thank you Jesus and AA) So I drive down from Anaheim for the memory and a beautiful ride,on the way back saw a horse n rider and got to pet the horse and take a selfie with horsey ,it was an amazing day at a beautiful place,im back on a bike after 30 years not riding ,as soon as I get more strengh and endurance I will try to do the loop,from Y M C A all the way around ,blessings to all

Great area for walking, trail running and cycling. Take out the kids and go for a run. Go for a walk with the dog. Whatever makes you happy. Great people and natural beauty

I often park nearby to run the 10 mile loop around the whole back bay. The (mostly treeless) Preserve includes marshes and the hillside up to Irvine Blvd. A set of nice little trails runs along the road and down to the water as well. The trails are nice for exploration by walking or jogging. The trails are dog (on leash) friendly too.

Awesome scenery great place for a quick hike. Would recommend if u don't want to travel too far.

Nice paved trail that is great for walks, bikes. Many unpacked trails cut thru but did not take them. One side of the parking lot takes you alongside the road but still good scenery. The other side I felt was better with lot more trees flowers and good views. Parking lot is large but fills up. Lot of street parking as well.
