If you are on the highway on I 85 N/S take the exit and visit this great historical airport. It's only a few miles from the exit. Great airport and hungar with may videos and information.
This museum had a wealth of material that educated me on the struggles and triumphs that the Tuskegee Airmen endured and overcame despite deliberate oppression and opposition from the leaders appointed over them. A success story against oppression. I highly encourage and recommend that everyone visit this outstanding museum. I was AMAZED and will visit again.
We did an impromptu stop, and it was super worth it. It's amazing how these heroes were able to focus. I was in awe with all of their accomplishments they've achieved while enduring such hardships. Show some respect and educate yourself with the various journeys of their time. They fought for this country only to return home to fight for substandard treatment and Jim Crow laws. Redtails for life!!! I want to ride in that mustang!
We didn't view any of the videos in hangar 2 as we got there late, but it was a pretty small display in hangar 1, with only 2 planes. One thing to know, there's handicapped parking only near the entrance. Everyone else has to park up the hill and walk down to the hangars. It's farther than any other museum entrance I can recall from the parking lot. It's not like it's a hike, but it was more than anticipated for sure.
The National Park Service did an absolutely wonderful job of presenting and preserving the history of the these brave mens contributions in WWII. They did so much more than just train to fly, you'll see when you come here to learn their history and share their story.
Such a hidden gem! This museum honors great heroes who sacrificed to protect us and their fellow pilots. This museum continues to get better and better. The movie is fantastic!
This is a historically important memorial to the trailblazing men and women designated as Tuskegee Airmen. Thir role in the history of the military deserves a much bigger, much grander memorial than this. Now, I'm. Ot knocking this, this is definitely a place to come and see and learn about a significant group of men and women. There are a few original structures, displays, and relics that show what life was like for them. I recommend that if you ever swing through Alabama, stop and check this memorial out. Its important to keep our history alive.
Interesting to read the history. Glad it wasn't a charge. If they don't allow Ada to park near the hanger, this needs to be done. The walk is not good for Ada persons
