Tubby's Thunderbolt location is a timeless place that feels like the old Savannah, more laid back and with a nautical vibe, overlooking the Wilmington River. The outdoor deck is the perfect setting, even in January. We had lunch on New Year's Day, which was sunny and in the 60s, so we sat outside. We had their peel & eat shimp, hush puppies and fish and grits. All were excellent, very fresh, and not overly seasoned. The fish and grits were on unseasoned/sauced grits, so a little hot sauce kicked it up a notch. The shrimp is local and very fresh. Service was friendly and efficient, which is as important as the meal. We've been here twice now and both times were really good. It's a Savannah fixture, not a trendy or hyped place. Go there to feel like a local.

Tubby's on River Street has been a part of many fun family memories throughout the past 20 years. We are very sad to see them have to close their doors at the end of this month. So, my husband & I visited once more last night. It was a nice little farewell... Beautiful weather, great service & of course yummy food. Thank you, Tubby's, for the wonderful memories!

Atmosphere was better when the music was turned down or off so we could talk more easily. Waitress and waiter were fabulous. Loved the mahi mahi entree. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals and 3 loved their desserts. Grouper was the best 1 had ever had! Would really like to go back if I return to Savannah. Glad we picked Tubby's over Crab Shack!

The service was great! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The flavor of the food was good; however, the size of the chicken was a record scratcher. Before I continue, I know that seafood should have been my choice here, but I was feeling the grilled chicken strips instead tonight. I told the server that I am not a complainer, but I needed to know if I'd accidentally ordered the kids portion. He reassured me that it was indeed the adult portion and that he was a bit surprised as well, but that was it. I've had the strips here many times in the past and the 5 piece usually left me with at least one more meal afterwards. Not today. These were basically 5 grilled chicken nuggets. The vats of blue cheese and ranch were prepared for the body-builder chickens, but alas they were faced with the bite-sized, chicken pieces who hadn't seen a gym in a lifetime. My husband had the buffalo fried chicken fingers which weren't much bigger. At least the beating added a little more fluff. Needless to say, next time, a seafood dish will be ordered.

Fish and cheesy grits was nice, almost a bit too salty, but flavorful. Hush puppies were crunchy outside, soft inside: perfect. Spacious inside where we ate and then outside area folks seemed to be having a good time. Music outside. More affordable and tasty options compared to downtown Savannah.

My first time dining here, & it was great. Food was delicious, atmosphere was cordial, staff were very friendly and took care of all our needs. Amanda was serving very tasty drinks, & pleasant speaking with.

Excellent food!! My salmon for my sandwich was cooked to perfection. The edges had a slight crisp, the rest was tender and flavorful. The sauce was a perfect combination for the Shrimp and Grits. It was cooked well and had great flavor. I will say that the food took a little time to be ready, but that is to be expected on a busy Saturday night. When we got our food, the wait was forgotten! The bartender was pleasant during our wait. The servers we questioned were kind. The restrooms were clean. Very relaxing atmosphere. When we are back in the area, we will certainly return.

Great place to eat and drink. Great service, and music on the weekends. Little bit on the pricey side and I would say they need to work there restroom situation ( limited bathrooms). I do recommend this location for a visit.
