I really enjoy attending Tsunami with my daughter. It started out as a deal from groupon for something new that turned into something great. It's family oriented, the parents are welcoming and friendly, and the coaches are really nice. They're serious about their craft but still leave room for the children to enjoy the sport.
I would recommend you try it. All staff are professional, caring, and engaged. I am now an active member of the organization and a part of the Tsunami family.
UPDATE 7/12/23: I updated my review to remove a fee I listed in error. I found out they do not charge a renewal registration fee for existing memberships.
ORIGINAL 7/7/23: My daughter has been coming here for exactly a year on 7/9/2023. I actually really like this place. The Coach and the Master instructor are REALLY GREAT with kids. (The owner is a Gemini so duhh) lol They really give you good class times for your buck. He holds a total of 4 classes during the week for TKD (Tues, Wed Thurs & Sat). That's literally 12 classes a month for the monthly price. Sometimes I am late on my payment and they works with me so I really appreciate that. My child started off as a white belt and is currently an orange belt (& she missed one belt ceremony). So if your child does the work and learns their skills they will definitely be recognized for it and advance to the next level.
With that being said I have to outline the fees for any single parents struggling with balancing household expenses and your child's activities. So, you get to choose your membership options and I chose the yearly option where I pay monthly but whatever your monthly charge is slap on an extra $5 bucks as a service fee to make the payment. Also keep in mind, every belt ceremony requires a belt fee & any tournament or class event that is thrown will require a fee (which is understandable but sometimes the prices are extreme for a one parent household). I'm not complaining I'm just telling you so you can plan accordingly.
Overall we really love Coach Joe and Coach Paul and we won't be going anywhere else!
My daughter loves it and so do I. The coaches are awesome, they teach more than just MMA, they teach the kids how to all around good people. The kids aren't allowed to laugh at anyone who doesn't quite know a move. I love how the kids that have been there for a while m, helps the kids that just started. I will definitely be sending my daughter there on a regular, all the employees are really kind.
Love the team and my experience at Tsunami MMA! My wife introduced me to the gym for kickboxing classes and we had a wonderful time working out during the classes. The gym owners and trainers did an excellent job of taking individualized time with people during class to make sure your technique can improve and how to get better. We haven't been in a while because we moved to a different neighborhood farther away, but I would love to get back there to see the new location and cross-train.
If you're considering visiting or joining the gym, absolutely do it. You'll feel great, stronger, and learn some excellent skills for both self-defense and overall health and wellness.
I love Tsunami Mixed Martial Arts! Owner Coach Paul and his amazing staff and coaching team is incredible. I've been a member for 2 years and am planning on being a member forever. I take cardio kickboxing and am extremely happy with my fitness level improvements and maintenance. I actually love going to workout!
Very family friendly environment. The instructors are thoughtful and capable. It's still a growing gym so sometimes your partner may be a beginner or you may have to practice the basics, but it's about the community and the results you get are going to be determined by what effort you focus on yourself.
Update: I've been going to Tsunami for two years now and felt compelled to give a more detailed summary about Tsunami and why it's a great gym. I've tried every class now and all of the instructors are very experienced and have an eye for safety and adapting their feedback to the needs of the students. Coach Roy teaches the kickboxing/muay thai classes and is an amazing athlete, but more importantly he knows how to organize a class so that beginners and veterans alike know what to focus on in a class. Especially for beginners, martial arts classes can be a dangerous thing. But Coach Roy is watchful and guides classes to be a constructive atmosphere 99% of the time (thing is, nobody can control every variable when you're in an open space of dozens of people, but we're all taught to put safety first).
The Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes include gi and no-gi classes. The classes are 3 evening classes and one midday class on Saturday. Coach Mohammid and Coach Devin bring a lot of athleticism and teaching experience every class. You get what you put into it, though. It's also really important that beginners focus on learning their capabilities (or lack of) and work on building from that platform of understanding. The great thing about Tsunami Jiu-jitsu is that the classes and the consistent students are very accomodating and if you just go to class, you're guaranteed to see improvements physically and mentally and even emotionally. You will find it challenging and you should but there's nothing so rewarding as being better than you were yesterday.
Tsunami has been an integral part of our family for over 3 years now. They are kind, welcoming, professional, organized and talented. They don’t just teach martial arts well; they teach being a good citizen. Our daughter has learned so much. The parents can kick box or do Muay Thai. Even during the COVId 19 pandemic they have been great at being safe, offering alternatives for virtual classes and communicating at a high level. We can’t recommend this gym enough. Coach Paul and his team have created a very special place in our community. If you’re shopping for an MMA gym for a child, yourself or both, you should definitely audition this one!
Excellent! Very professional, patient & courteous. Clean environment. Made all the kids feel welcome. The kids had a good workout while having a whole lot of fun. Thanks Ivy, coach Devin, & Michael.
