This place was great! Love the Italian / Japanese fusion and our server, Ryan, was awesome! We had the burrata with citrus, the Japanese Philly pizza, pepperoni onigiri, and chocolate pudding for dessert. Super cool ambiance and great service :)
Our server was amazing and attentive, even gave my other friend and I espresso martinis samples without us asking since we were ogling our friend’s drink. We were seated very quickly, and my food came out within 15 min. This is simply some of the best pizza I had- fluffy and flavorful crust unlike anything I’ve tried before, with a rich marriage of provolone, mozzarella, shredded short rib, and cheez whiz on top. It might sound weird, but you’ll thank me later! Relatively low noise level and not too crowded around 730 pm on a Wednesday.
Stopped by here for dc restaurant week where they were featuring a "the bear" themed menu, and was super impressed! Service was very attentive and courses were perfectly timed. The flavors were simple, but layered, and left one feeling with a "homey" vibe. Everything was delicious as were the cocktails.
Life is short .. F….it up! Family, Flavor, Friends While visiting DC we found our way to this Italian- Japanese fusion place inside the Chinatown area. Walking down the street to a modest sign. Walking into the restaurant you get hit w that aroma of a typical Italian place. Which was a great start. We ordered 2 pasta dishes the Mel’s ragu and miso clam and the mushroom pizza. They make the pasta per order like in a ramen place. Although the serving size was Japanese and not Italian. It certainly was not lacking in flavor. The pasta for the Mel Ragu was what you would expect in a Asian fresh pull noodle place - perfect texture and chewiness. From the 1st bite to the last gave you blast of savory flavor. And yes it have you that sigh and bliss feeling. The miso clam was also very good - you could say it was like a surf and turf pasta. The pizza is made w a imported Hokkaido Flour. As you know the flour can make a difference w texture and flavor for dough. They baked it like a Detroit style light and crispy and thick. For dessert we got the Affogato. The entire meal was very memorable that you will not affogatoable it🤣 - sorry - def check out this place if your down in DC.
Explosion of flavor.😍 Each bite of their pizza is a wave of flavor. I never had Japanese-Italian fusion food, but it is incredible. If you are near, go for a Japanese Philly cheese steak pizza 🤯. They have a happy hour offer at the bar 1 drink + pizza half price Monday to Friday 5-7 pm.
I visited during the grand opening day of the Tonari cafe. It’s now a cafe during the day until 2 PM and a restaurant in the evening but I’m just talking about the cafe here. It has a basic cafe menu with espresso-based drinks and a few special drinks. My friend and I ordered an Espresso & Tonic and a Coconut Shakerato and both are really good. The All Day Breakfast menu has some amazing options too. The Banana Bread with honey miso butter is great, the honey miso realy complements the banana bread, though a piece is quite small for the price. It was a nice inteior inside with the bar and the kitchen and a few dining tables for seating, which we enjoyed.
Fun experience at Hole in the Wall! Was able to snag a reservation through Yelp and my husband and I came here after getting a light dinner nearby. Located upstairs in Tonari, this dessert bar is a seven-seat experience with only three nightly seatings from Thursday-Saturday. You’re served five courses and different alcoholic drinks that are made right in front of you by the chef, who was very kind and told us all about her process and why she decided to combine certain flavors. The best course was the rice pudding course, and I say that as someone who actually doesn’t really prefer rice pudding! An honorable mention goes to the chocolate donut-style cake, which was topped with chocolate syrup. Drinks were fabulous and light. Loved the lemon hot toddy, which was refreshing and cozy. We also got a slice of their pizza in a to go box after our dinner, which was really nice! All in all a fun time! Would recommend if you’re able to get a reservation.
This place offers amazing fusion of Italian and Japanese food. I went with my co-workers for team outing. It was an amazing experience. Food was delicious. We tried all the pizza’s. Japanese Philly was the best of all. Really enjoyed red sauce spaghetti with meatballs. Finished the dinner with black sesame tea cake and Tiramisu. I highly recommend their tiramisu. Staff was friendly and service was great. Place is usually busy, so I highly recommend reservation.
The restaurant is gorgeous on the inside. Most of the seating is benches around a table to make the eating experience more communal and easier to share food. You want to share too, because the portions are large and everything was delicious. We had t
Delicious food. Fast and friendly service. Great prices. Portions are generous. We typically get the whole chicken with 3 sides and it's enough for two people to have dinner and leftovers for lunch the next day. Perfect for busy weeknights. We were
Bresca had amazing food, excellent service and we had a wonderful experience throughout. As soon as we walked in, the hostesses were very friendly and sat us right away. The restaurant was very busy and we still got all our food dishes from the chef

The waiters/waitresses kinda seemed like they didn't know what they were doing, but this place fortunately was saved by how fantastic the food is. Best meal I had in DC this year. Highly recommend the Shakshuka and the Pastrami Ruben!

I normally don't give a five star review, but I had a lot of fun here. It is on the second floor and there is no sign. We arrived at 4:30 pm on a Friday and people were already waiting. By opening time at 5pm, there were enough people to fill the pla
