One of the historic landmarks in Cades Cove is Tipton Place. Once owned by Revolutionary War Vet William “Fighting Billy” Tipton, this two-story cabin from the 1870s is a time capsule. It has a large double-pen corn crib, old-fashioned bee gums, a blacksmith shop, and a cantilever barn. These barns held wagons, farming equipment, livestock, hays, and crops. A stroll through this site is like a journey back in time. While you’re in the Cades Cove loop, don’t forget to stop by Tipton Place.
One of the many historic family cabins in the Smoky Mountains. While it has seen some restoration, much of the original build still stands.
This is a beautiful spot. We don't stop here very often but it was not crowded when we were there this time. There are some great historic structures here and it is nice to walk around and picture what it must have been like to live here.
I absolutely love coming here to visit where my ancestors lived. This is where my great grandfather was born. Growing up we'd visit here and Cades come twice a yr atleast and my grandmother wouldn tell us stories of growing up in the mountains. Soo magical.
What a wonderful place to visit and get a look at early Mountain life. Always a thrill to view the old cabins and barns. Beautiful place to walk and experience wildlife and nature at it's best. 11 miles on a one way road.
We visited Cades Cove and had a wonderful time. We visited the grist mill, the visitors center the barns, houses churches and other structures. We also saw deer and a turkey. This is a wonderful one day trip.
Beautiful even through the throngs of aimless wanderers. The Cove road was just too crowded, able to turn out and stop here for a peaceful walk back to another time.

Primitive Baptist Church from 1827! This was my favorite church on the property, and the cemetery behind it offers some great exploration, as well. I would recommend trying to catch one of the lectures as it was incredibly informative, love that yo

After leaving Florida a day early for a business trip to Knoxville, we had stopped off in Townsend to find lodging for the evening. We had been on the road and awake for well over 24hrs and were extremely exhausted and was hoping to check in early. K
A nice place to get out and get hands on with trains and item's from the past. I didn't post pictures of the museum, not to mess up the surprise! The wonderful couple running the shop and museum are great. Don't forget to sign the guest book.
