First glance this motel is very ran down. A lot of people just walking around outside up to no good. When I first arrived I was “welcomed” by manager Amber. Very rude. Had a door sign on her door with explicit words telling people not to effing knock. Very unprofessional. Secondly, quickly I learned she had a son staying there charge free. Whatever. But what is not cool is having him ask people if they would like to buy d**gs while staying there. This is not the place to go. Nasty, roaches, and unprofessional. Manager and her son are main reason I will never recommend this motel. They are the problem.
I've had the displeasure of staying at this motel twice. My first time was 2 years ago. Black mold, dust, and roaches. It was too late for me to leave. Fast-forward to last week, I should have kept sleeping in my car. Supposedly under new owners, still operating on old rooms. I needed a weekly rate and was told $250 flat. I paid it because the comfort of my service animal means more to me than my own comfort. They tried to charge me a $50 cleaning fee, "not for the dog" they said. Unless they charge everyone else a $50 cleaning fee, it was for my dog. I refused to pay that and was hassled about it every day. Being on call that entire week I got little rest. None at the motel. Loud talking all night by my door. Folks sitting right by my window. Nothing done about that , but still talk if the cleaning fee. Well between the broken crack pipe under my bed, leftovers in the microwave, and that relentless roach asking me for the tv remote was a lot. Standing water in the tub, somebody's Netflix account, and the fridge was on strike. The last straw was knocking on my door at 10:30 am saying I now had to pay $275. I exploded. Packed my stuff and told the roach he needed $275 if he was staying, I'm out. I was told by management that I couldn't be loud and that took it to a whole different level. You can stay if you like, but that's completely on you. Don't say I didn't tell you.
Ever since they were taking over by New Management I would say the Thunderbird is made a drastic change in a good way. At one point you literally would get a room without a television or a microwave. They've corrected all of those mishaps or shortcomings. With all that being said this is still a motel it is not a hotel so you pay for what you get which is going to be in room air conditioner and TV and the bed. Your not gonna find breakfast in bed, a spa or room service but it will get you to the following day
The pictures do not reflect the actual hotel, I stayed in room 14, it was in no way resembled the wood paneled rooms in the photos. Light switch did not work, TV did not work, there were food scraps around the microwave from the previous occupant. Aside from the freshly, heavily bleached floor that made the eyes water, the room was generally filthy. I used the restroom in the middle of the night and the roaches scattered, I chose to sleep in a sleeping bag rather than on the dirty sheets, and still woke to the creepy crawlies on me. Door had clearly been kicked in several times, door frame was busted up around the lock which barely worked. They have a no refund policy, I left and forfeited 5 nights worth of stay rather than stay another night at Thunderbird. I tried to complain by calling the front desk, it goes to a voice mail on a landline that says text someone's cell phone, but they give the number, and there is no other way to contact them. Generally a horrifying experience that misrepresents to 'new management' and remodeling. There were repainting the busted up doors in all fairness when I fled in the morning, so may be renovations are in progress in some rooms, but definitely not in room 14.
You'd be better off sleeping in your car. Cockroaches, dirty floors, moldy showers. I've NEVER given one star to any business but the Thunderbird ruined Columbus for us. If you don't care about these things, the $57 on a weekend would make a great stay. I'm embarrassed that we even tried the place.
Very affordable and surprisingly clean! Don't get it twisted, The Marriott this is not. That said I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the rooms were. This is probably the oldest hotel on Victory Drive and it shows. But hey, you get what you pay for 🤐
New owners great work being done to remodel the hotel. Great workers clean nice picnic area. Help is always around the anytime you need them. Will stay here again anytime.
The rooms a okay. I love the mantience man he is 🤩 he was nice and kept me laughing and they don't have breakfast. And the checkout time is 11._ and there romes are okay. I went to see friends there.
